I have been using Dura Ace HollowTech bottom bracket bearings for years and always find them to be very reliable, both in terms of bearing quality and seals. Don't waste your money on ceramic bearing cups. I have found that the bearings are either too small and weak on the drive side so much so that they can crack. Or the seals are not adequate. The Dura Ace bottom bracket bearing won't last forever but will last longer than most other brands and at this price you really can't go wrong. The fact that it's not recommended you service it is actually an advantage as servicing these types of cups rarely pays off and takes time. The price does not prohibit just chucking it in the bin and putting in a brand new one.
The only reservation I have is that the cups come with grease on the threads and you should always use anti seize paste when installing bottom bracket cups. So that's a little confusing.
Excellence once again from Shimano. Lightweight, precise, simple to fit and at only a small premium over the Ultegra unit then it has to be this one. Rock solid product.
Bottom bracket runs as smoothly as I'd expect for Dura Ace, I can't comment on the durability as I've done about 200 miles on it so far but it appears to be very well made. It took a few attempts to get the thread to catch, the 105 BB it replaced seemed to be ever so slightly slimmer, but ultimately it went in correctly and my first impression was that there was little resistance compared to other BBs. What pleased me most about the order was the price Merlin sold it for - it was cheaper than Ultegra from other retailers and practically the same price as 105. So I thought "why not treat myself", even on my winter training bike!
Bottom bracket bearings smooth. Overall, product of a standard to be expected of a Dura Ace component.
