An open and aggressive tread design gives the High Roller II excellent soil penetration and mud-clearing ability. A square profile provides a solid, consistent feel across the knobs. Tubeless Ready: Tubeless tyres provide the rider with many benefits: the ability to run lower air pressures, which improves traction; lower rolling resistance when compared to a tube-type tyre; and less chance of flatting since there is no tube. Maxxis Tubeless Ready (TR) tyres provide the benefits of a UST tubeless tyre without the weight penalty. Our TR tyres use a standard casing and require the use of a liquid sealant in order to make them airtight

 

EXO: An extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of select mountain tyres. This densely woven fabric is also lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tyre remains unaffected. Choose EXO Protection for exceptionally rocky, treacherous trails where the chance of sidewall cuts and abrasions is high.

 
PaulI’ve tried loads of tyres on my trail bike and I just like High Rollers the best. I’ve ridden thousands of trail miles on these tyres. No need to change then in different seasons, just leave these on. I run the dual compound 62A/60A on the rear because it rolls way better than a 3C and lasts longer on the back, and I pair it with a 3C High Roller on the front for grip, my go-to combo on the trail bike. They do take some commitment to get the side-knobs to hook up when cornering, you’ve got to lean the bike over properly, but that suits my riding style and when you do they rail corners with comedy amounts of grip. If it doesn’t suit your style then maybe a Minion DHR II would suit you better, but they don’t clear mud as well as these.
CarlosMaxxis HR2 is already a legendary tyre used by enduro and DH pros (though likely not on the 2.3" guise) so I decided to try having had little prior experience with Maxxis. It was easy to install tubeless with sealant on a mavic wheel. Immediately I was a bit disappointed by how low volume and narrow it is, particularly when compared with the 2.35 Magic Mary it replaces. It's not that light either which made me believe it would be a big tyre. I think it's more of a 2.2 than a 2.3. It feels much smaller than the semi-slick Rock Razor 2.35 I have on the rear wheel for comparison. Would I buy it again? Myabe not , mainly due to the low volume, I would probably decide on the 2.4 version or look at another Mary, Butcher or Onza Ibex (though I have no experience with the latter 2. Performance wise I can't say much yet as I only had it for a couple of rides. It seems to roll better than the Marys but I'm less confident on it, it may be the narrow /low volume nature that is affecting my confidence and maybe with time I learn to rely more on it's abilities. That said it didn't let me down so far on any of the fast corners and jumps. Fast and reliable service from Merlin once again.
