After hearing people rave about these, finally bought some, and despite one of my wettest rides yet including a foot in a puddle moment, my feet stayed lovely and dry, and warm!
I've been meaning to try these or a while, having purchased cheaper and as it turned out inferior water proof socks. The Sealskinz feel odd at first, slightly stiff and crinkly however soon feel normal once your shoes are on. I bought a uk 6-8 for my size 7 feet and they feel slightly too big, but still manage to stay up. This is my only issue and has nothing to do with the quality of the product. I recommend these highly.
I bought these to replace my old sealskinz socks which had started letting water in after about 4 years. These are slightly thinnner than the ones I had before and therfore slightly more comfortable. They've had one long, cross country cycle in sub zero, snowy conditions and they kept my feet warm and dry (Although I was using overshoes as well).
Nice & dry all day long, no more wet feet
Superb product. Used the socks, for the first time, on a very cold and boggy fell run. The socks kept my feet perfectly warm, dry and clean. I wouldn't have been able to do the same distance in ordinary socks, it would have been to uncomfortable. Will also be great for those cold cycle rides.
Great waterproof socks but order a size up!
This must be the best value for money cycling purchase I have ever made, you would not believe how much more warmer and dryer my feet where, making my ride so much more comfortable, without cold wet feet
They feel slightly strange when you 1st put them on but after a wet weekend mountain biking in snowdonia, I will never go off with out them
I would recommend them to anyone who is not a fine weather only biker
And at merlin you great great price with fast delivery
I walk around 5 miles a day delivering mail in all weathers. Boot soles wear out very quickly and although the best boots for keeping my feet dry were gore tex lined the soles wore out far too quickly for replacement of the boots to be an economical option. Even replacing the soles would cost the same as a pair of Sealskinz socks, which is why I purchased a pair. I think I made the right decision. I can wear these socks with any pair of boots or shoes and my feet remain dry. Having worn them over the last two weeks in snow and rain my feet have remained dry and warm. I cannot comment on durability over the long term but 70 miles in and they still are as new. Very impressed, I'll be buying more of these and have recommended them to my work colleagues. Looking forward to trying them on the golf course, need to get more so I can always have a clean pair available!
Great product, very quickly dispatched thanks
Dying to try these socks they look and feel very warm and comfortable on my feet, hopefully no more cold and wet feet. Thanks for a superfast delivery
The socks look awesome, didn't have the chance to put it to the ultimate test, but can't wait for it.
They certainly are warm. And even look comfy enough - that is usually one criticism I've read in reviews around before deciding to buy.
Dry and warm, what else would you use this time of year
Second pair of these - dry feet happy biker
great product, good length, does what it says on the tin
This is by far the most I have paid for a pair of socks but so far the investment has been worthwhile.
I got these the week before a 3 day trip to Mabie, Dalbeattie and Kirroughtree and the performed flawlessly with nice cosy dry feet all weekend.
They feel a bit weird at first but either wear a pair of thin socks underneath or leave it and you'll get used to it.
I did have some water penetration yesterday following a particularly wet ride but it was just a little bit at the toes - and I had been ankle deep in wet mud after having had to push my bike through a muddy cow field after a wrong turn :/
Price from Merlin made the cost bearable and as usual incredible delivery - Ordered Friday at 12pm delivered saturday morning... free of charge!
These Sealskinz socks are brilliant - in prolonged rain you do get a bit of water going down your leg and into the sock (if you are not wearing waterproof trousers). Even so your feet stay warm all day and don't get cold like they would in normal socks.
Just make sure you wash them at 40C or under (better hand washed with non-bio powder) to keep the goretex in working order - I ruined my last pair, mistakenly washing at 60C - the goretex inner membrane went kind of 'crinkley'.
Great service from Merlin as always, arrived next day.
Boy, these have come a long way. I had waterproof socks years ago, that (Gortex or not), were little more comfy than a plastic bag.
The tech has really come of age. They feel 85% like a regular sock but they are still quite thick and warm. My cycling shoes are pretty snug and if you have a tight fitting shoe already, these won't be an option.
A 'large' size sock is only just big enough for my size 9.
I am unfortunately prone to sweaty feet and with normal effort my feet get damp in them, but way better than a soaking. A genuine alternative to an overboot in cooler conditions, but not for the summer.
I already had the short sock so knew how they would feel, like a plastic bag in a hiking sock ! The problem with the short sock, is water runs down your leg and stays inside the sock. But when worn with 661 Kyle Straits (Velcro closure over the sock top) they were fantastic. On a 40 km day in the Black Mountains, my feet were still comfy, just a little damp where the other lads feet were soaked !
Good quality, nice and warm.
A must for mtb have been using these for years beleive me it's great to ride all day with dry feet and use the same socks next day because they are still dry. Top product and well worth the cash
