Sizing Information for Shimano Shoes
I have wide feet and hoped that these shoes would stop me from getting numb feet and hot spots during medium/long rides. Unfortunately, even in wide fit they still felt a bit too narrow! I'm a standard UK9/EU43 in every other type of footwear except cycling shoes. I bought these in a 44 and the length would have been fine. Its a shame they didn't quite fit me on the width as the quality of construction and value of this shoe is excellent.
Excellent shoe. Very pleased. First ratchet style fastening I have tried and it works a treat. Very comfortable and lots of scope for cleat adjustability. Only come in white but they somehow get away with it.
Shoes are light, well made and look great on. I have a pair of Shimano R215's which are 7yrs old and have done 1000's of miles and if I get half as much use out of these I will be happy. One obvious upgrade from the 215's is the stack height which is much lower on the R170's bringing the sole of your foot closer to the pedal axle. The velcro straps are also an improvement on the old R215's which were too inflexible. The rubber heel is also much better on the R170's as it is substantial. Shimano shoes like the companies' components are high quality and relatively cheap.
Fantastically stiff shoes. It states that these have a stiffness rating of 10 and on the Shimano website, the max is 12. I would think the difference would be noticeable. Got these in a wide and the performance so far after 10 rides has been magic. Plenty of room for the foot to spread out without feeling loose. The bright white takes some getting used to, but looks aside (and they're good looking shoes) these are fantastic shoes at a very good price.
