Bex’s Blog How I’m Prepping for the Pru

Merlin Cycles customer service star and sponsored team rider Rebecca ‘Bex’ Rimmington is competing in this Saturday’s Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix.

The Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix is a series of criterium races taking place in London on the evening of Saturday August 9th. Spectators will be able to watch a spectacular display of bike racing as the world’s best pro women battle it out – finishing off with a dramtic sprint down The Mall.

As preparation, Bex has been racing all over the country this season doing a combination of road racing, crits and time trials.

Here’s what Bex has to say about it all…

“My coach is very good at planning my training around what event is on the calendar. Things have been going pretty well – but there’s still a lot more I want to do before the end of the season so still working hard!

“I’m not going in with any expectations. Road racing is so unpredictable you just have to be vigilant – I think everyone knows who the riders are to watch, but everyone there wants to race the world’s best so it’s going to be fast and furious.

“It’s pretty cool riding with big name cyclists. I’d still love to race professionally so being in the same field will certainly show what I have to do to raise my game.

“I can’t wait to be racing down the Mall outside Buckingham Palace – it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity so going to enjoy every minute.

“I will be racing on my Team Merlin Sensa Giulia (this is an old post and the linked content no longer exists). For race day I run deep section wheels and Continental Competition tubulars – it’s nice to feel that extra edge coming off the heavy training wheels.

“My kit bag has everything packed in its place. The side compartments have my pre-race selection in – the Secret Training chamois cream (this is an old post and the linked content no longer exists) and warm-up oil (this is an old post and the linked content no longer exists), this stuff is amazing! Along with my pot of safety pins.

“In the main compartment I have my Team Merlin kit, along with a selection of Sportful overshoes, arm warmers, leg warmers and waterproofs so I’m prepared for any weather. Then for my nutrition I have some Beet-it shots, ZipVit Elite Energy (this is an old post and the linked content no longer exists) drink and High 5 recovery drink for after the race.

“I would love to have a great race, I’m going to give it my best shot for sure.” 🙂

Everyone at Merlin Cycles is wishing Bex all the best. Go Bex!

If you can’t make it along to watch in St James’s Park, the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix pro women’s race will be shown live on BBC2 and British Eurosport from 17:00-18:00 on Saturday 9 August.
