Time for our weekly run down of what new stuff has arrived through our delivery doors this past few days. There’s plenty of summer clothing and a nice mixture of shiny hardware from Renthal, Hope and Rockshox and more.
Continental Competition Tubular 25mm
Tubular tyres always seem to get the most response whenever we put them on the blog or in Instagram. I guess you’re just a load of rubber fetishists. And who can blame you? This tub from Conti has their famous Black Chilli compound and their VectranBreaker puncture proofing. Sweet rubber!
BBB BTL-18 Tools & Tubes Storage Can
This is one for the commuters out there. It’s a screw-top can that fits in your bottle cage and holds all your inner tubes and tools and stuff. Simply pull it out and take it with you when you get to your workplace. Cheaper than a saddle bag and well, just better for lots of people.
OTE Energy Drink 1.2kg
The OTE bunch are local lads. They share a telephone dialling code with us here at Merlin Cycles. It’s great to be able to stock their stuff. Essentially it’s energy stuff for normal people. Riders as well as racers. Cyclists who are interested in having effective nutrition but who are not really interested in having to work it out with weights and measures and theory.
OTE’s USP is that their stuff is split into 20g servings of carbohydrate. Whether it’s drink or food, they’ve segmented it out easily into 20g servings. Once you know how many grams of carbohydrate you need every hour – for your weight and for your level of intensity – you’re away. Then it’s easy to keep track of where you are with your intake.
POC Index Flow and POC Index Air Adjustable gloves
Yet more gloves from POC. They all initially look like they’re the same but dig a bit deeper and you’ll find that there’s some definite differences. The Index Flow are for your gravity assisted riders. The Airs are for your more XC sort of rider. Both are constructed to the high levels of quality typical of POC.
Race Face Stage and Race Face Podium gloves
The orange glove is for racing. The black glove is for riding. Though we’re going to stick out neck out and say that you could probably do either activity with either glove and you wouldn’t die. But don’t quote us on that.
Beet It Sport Nitrate 3000 drink
Who doesn’t love nitrates eh? Me, I can’t get enough of them. Thanks to the helpful guys over at Beet It I can wolf down my nitrates like billy-o now. Did you know that beetroot can lower your blood pressure by the way?
POC Octal Aero Raceday helmet
You have to be pretty fast or just plain extremely confident in your appearance to bung this lid on your head. There’s a bit more protection for lower down the back and sides of your head on this helmet compared to a lot of other aero helmets.
Race Face Ambush and Race Face Indy shorts
The Ambush is both hard-wearing and great looking, Tweedster fabric has a textured outer face for style but takes a beating and shrugs off water thanks to the DWR treatment and waterproof membrane. The Indy shorts offer maximum flow through venting and a baggy trail style short recommended for trail riding and enduro racing.
Race Face Indy knee pads
More enduro wear from Race Face. The Indy pads are flexible pads with lighter weight fabric. Second-skin Butterfly Mesh sleeve with targeted D30 shock absorbing protective foam knee. Protection you can trust on rowdy descents built into a minimal sleeve for unlimited range of motion while climbing.
Race Face Indy 3/4 Sleeved jersey
Relaxed fit, 3/4 sleeve jersey with colour block design and low profile screen print details. The silky feeling warp knit Cool Touch fabric is comfortable next to the skin, quick-drying, and hard wearing. Flatlock stitching throughout eliminates chaffe. Hidden stash pocket located in the side panel features a faux suede pocket bag that doubles as a goggle wipe.
Race Face Trigger Short Sleeved jersey
Relaxed fit, lightweight and breathable short sleeve jersey draws sweat away from the body to keep you cool and dry. Added Chitosante antimicrobial finish mitigates odour. The silky feeling knit fabric is comfortable next to the skin, moisture wicking and quick-drying.
Hope Floating rotor 140mm
We’re starting to see more and more people asking for dinky disc rotors. No, it’s not due to the return of the dark days of XC MTB weight weenie-isms. These smaller size discs are going on riders’ disc-equipped road bikes and cyclocross bikes.
Rockshox Argyle RCT Solo Air 140
IN this day and age of new wheels sizes, new steerer sizes and new axle standards it’s great to see a classic fork. 140mm travel, 1 1/8th steerer, for 26″ wheels. A bombproof fork for bombproof bikes that will outlive any of the current chop-and-change standards in mountain biking. And the colour is ace too.
Renthal Fatbar handlebars
Go tell your mother – we’re finally stocking Renthal handlebars. Huzzah! They’re from Stockport don’t you know? No, really, they are. Bung a bit of moto style on your velocipede and unleash your inner Gwinner.
MET Buddy and Elfo kids helmets
What’s better than riding bikes? Watching your kids ride bikes. Get them used to protecting their bonces with these super-stylin’ helmets from MET.
Paceline Chamois Butt’r
A very delicate area. If you’ve never know that such a product as this exists, you do now. It’s well worth having in your armoury for when you’re attempting longer-than-normal distances and/or riding for multiple days in a row.
Rockshox Pike RCT3 Dual Position Air 160mm 29er
Our Kane is so strong that he can hold up a pair big travel, big wheeler Pikes with just his finger and thumb. Hashtag amazeballs, as they say. If you’re a big rider with a big bike that has big wheels then you need these forks in your life, like yesterday dude. Preferably sooner.
Supra RC58 Carbon Clincher wheels
A quick mention of our Supra wheels. Merlin are the distributor of these wheel over here in the UK. Give the range a look over if you’re after a decent set of high end road wheels that don’t have a massive price tag.
Smith Optics Overdrive sunglasses
Shades innit? “A complete rethink on what a sunglass can help you accomplish. From world-class competition to casual sport, the patent-pending interchangeable lens system allows you to meet all of your athletic goals in any light condition. Key features include a new two-position adjustable nose fit and three sets of performance proven optics included in every case. Ergonomically adjusted to maximize integration with bike helmets and running hats so you can focus on the open road or trail ahead and leave the competition behind.” Okay then.
Felt ZW85 Womens Road Bike
We’re going to be stocking a bit more womens cycling stuff this year. It’s a bit of a gamble as the female market hasn’t been one that we’ve focussed on particularly. The ZW85 is the best-equipped of Felts aluminium women’s-specific road bikes. It is perfect for riders looking for a step up in performance. The frame is Custom Butted aluminium for lightweight performance and is paired with a carbon fibre fork for a light and responsive ride. Women’s-specific components include a short-reach bar, saddle and forged stem.
Merlin Cycles staff T-shirts
We’ve finally got uniforms. Woo! They’re nice shirts actually. We may even stock them for sale seeing as we’ve already had a lot of interest in them since we mentioned them on Instagram earlier!
Raleigh Pro-Build Chosen wheels – freehub noise
It is actually The Law for us to try and crowbar some video of a freehub noise into these Goods In blogs. So here is this week’s buzz…
