We’re late with this one. Soz! We’ve more than made for it though with the amount of cool new stuff that’s arrived at Merlin HQ. Get ready for a big one…
Shimano Womens WR62 shoes
There’s a bit of carbon fibre hidden away in these shoe. There’s a carbon plate insert in the glass fibre reinforced-polyamide sole for stiffening up the pedal power. You can’t see it but it’s good to know it’s there yeah? The black with minimal pink accents and stitching is one of the more subdued colourways we’ve seen for a women’s shoe.
Evoc CC backpacks
We decked our Kane lad out in a full turtle shell combo of Evoc backpacks (I guess that would make one of them a ‘frontpack’?) With Evoc we seem to either be selling the compact 6L version or the hee-ouge 16L version. It seems mountain bikers these days just want two types of handbag: one for dinky local rides and another for away-day epics.
One Industries Zero gloves and SixSixOne Comp gloves
Do you prefer the beach or the military? Show your allegiance with one of these pairs of gloves. If you’re a fan of the beach and of the military you could buy a pair of each and wear a different glove on each hand. Sorted.
POC Joint VPD 2.0 knee pads
Not cheap. But very, very good. The true multi purpose knee pad. Light and cool enough for all day trail riding but still offering state of the art shock absorption for hardcore DH riding. A solution to the constant trade-off between freedom of movement and real protective qualities. And you get a FREE ODOR with every pair purchased.
Bluegrass Golden Eye helmet
Even if you put this helmet on backwards you’ll still be able to see out okay. That’s probably not what the designers had in mind but hey, serendipity is a wonderful thing. We’d really recommend wearing the helmet the correct way around though.
Lusso Le Mans short sleeve jersey
The Lusso Le Mans is a high quality technical cycling jersey, offering MT.1 fabric with superb moisture transfer, hem gripper to keep the jersey in place and four rear pockets one with a zip for added security. This jersey has both a comfortable well-made fit and at a great price.
Kask Protone helmet
You know us, we love a bit of Kask in our Good Ins. The Protone is an aero tinged helmet that still factors in the real world. The black and the lime green Kask helmets always get the attention but we reckon this blood red Protone is the best looking one. What do you think?
New Felt decor
We’ve had the lovely Saddleback guys come over and plaster the back wall of our bike showroom with some Felt font and stripes. It looks really smart and acts as a nice finishing touch to the walls in there.
New Merlin decor
While the Felt stuff was being put up we also spruced up the foyer and entrance to our retail store. The city listing refers to where our customers come from rather than where we have offices. Hee-hee! We aren’t going to be selling Merlin brand radiators either before you ask.
Topeak Aero Wedge Pack (small)
Our most popular saddle pack in the most popular size. The small Aero Wedge is quietly becoming something of a classic product. It doesn’t change. It doesn’t need to. People like it and keep buying it time after time. It seems to have that right balance of form and function that ticks a lot of people’s boxes.
Oakley Legs Reverse T-shirt
What kind of name is “Legs Reverse”? Well, we reckon the “Reverse” refers to the reverse screen printing process and the “Legs” is a pun on the use of sunglasses’ arms for the bottom of the Y character. We may be wrong but it’s a tale that we like to tell foll anyhoo.
Altura Summit shorts
Sure you could get these in plain black but that would be the cowardly option. Embrace your inner dandelion and opt for these YELLOW baggies from Altura. Unlike a lot of baggies around the £50 mark, the Summit shorts do come with a removable internal liner short as well.
Sportful Hot Pack NoRain Stretch jacket
Most compact stow-away jackets aren’t waterproof. Neither do they offer much in the way of performance fit. The Hot Pack NoRain is different. It’s fully waterproof and it has strategically placed panels of stretchy material to ensure a decent cycling-specific cut. It still packs down small, so small that it fits inside its own rear pocket (seen above).
Muc-Off are one of our main guests at this week’s Opening Evening so we thought it would be a good idea to re-stock and tidy up the shop’s Muc-Off display. Whilst their iconic pink cleaning spray is still very much the big seller, their new range of super-techno lubes are also selling impressively well too.
Shimano MT91 SPD boots
Seeing as it’s August it’s time to talk about cycling in really, really awful weather. They may not be the lightest or sleekest shoes out there but when things are really bad out there on the trails, the Shimano MT91 hiking-boots-with-cleats really come into their own. Gore-Tex lined upper, Vibram sole, gusseted tongue, stiff at the pedal point, cushioned at the mid and heel zones.
Gore Bike Wear Oxygen jersey
Available in-store only. Gore Bike Wear’s Oxygen range is designed to benefit and enhance the performance and comfort of the long distance road cyclist. This is a highly functional summer jersey designed to be close fitting for the optimum moisture management aero performance. There is absolutely no bounce to the pockets which are designed to distribute weight and follow the rider’s movements, even when loaded to the brim! This is a serious performance jersey and all its features add to a ride with little distraction and increased comfort.
Gore Bike Wear Element baggy shorts
Available in-store only. With Gore Bike Wear stuff it’s the little things that mean a lot. Take for example the bright yellow airy fabric sides to the pockets on the Element shorts. On the bike these shorts are pleasingly lightweight, stretchy and are barely noticeable next to the skin.
Colnago C60 Matt Black / Gloss Black
“The C60 is gorgeous. It’s one of the very few bike that leaves me with a tingly sensation after every ride. One of the most balanced and intoxicating road bikes money can buy. It really is that good. Yes there are lighter and there are stiffer road bikes, and there are cheaper road bikes, but few offer such a composed and balanced performance as the new C60 does.” – Road.cc
Felt Z2 Disc Road
In a bold break from tradition we’ve shot this bike from the non-driveside er, side. The Z2 is full of non-tradtional features. It will no doubt see some road purists spitting venom. Disc brakes, sloping top tube, dipped seat stays, lengthy head tube and so on and so on. The truth is, this isn’t a road racing bike. It’s a road riding bike. Forget the stopwatch and the HRM. This bike’s for having fun and getting away from it all.
Northwave Galaxy Short cycling mitts
We took this pic and then remembered that Northwave used to make shoes where one shoe was a different colour to the other one. So please don’t be confused. These mitts are not like that. You either get a pair of white/black mitts or a pair of yellow/black mitts. Whichever ones you get, they’re very nice. Breathable, shock absorbing gel pad Superdry Sponge snotwipe thumb. Silicon pull-on grip. Pull-off rings between fingers.
Castelli Podio cap
Don’t call it a baseball cap. Nice embroidered graphic. It looks a bit pink in this pic but that’s due to the funny mixed lighting in the room. It’s ice white in the real world.
POC Index Air Adjustable gloves and Index Flow gloves
Shades of blue. The gloves on the left are Index Air Adjustable gloves in Krypton Blue. The gloves on the right are Index Flow gloves in Boron Blue. POC have some way to go match Camelbak for OTT colour names but they’re off to a good start.
Lezyne Dry Caddy QR seat pack
Waterproof, lightweight, semi-rigid Caddy with QR mounting system. High frequency durable construction. Wide opening, water tight roll-up design, to keep contents dry. Velcro straps for easy access. Reflective light loop aids rider visibility at night. Dimensions: 130 x 50 x 80mm. Weight: 115g.
Fizik Gobi M3 saddle with Kium rails
The Gobi is intended for mountain biking. Its shape is slightly waved in cross-sectional profile – think of a letter M. The Gobi M3’s K:ium rail makes it a lighter alternative to the M5 model. Wing Flex sides for freedom of thigh movement and Tail Flex for ease of transition on and off your bike.
MET Elfo Blue Jolly Roger kids helmet
Does your kid like Swashbuckle on CBeebies? Then here’s the helmet for them. Interesting feature: the back of the helmet is specifically shaped making it comfortable to lean back and hold their heads up when in a child bike seat.
Sram Red 22 groupset
This is our best offer ever for the full RED 22 groupset, with 100% of the components coming from Sram’s top of the range groupset. Whilst we only offer it with the PF30 bracket you can buy the BB30 bearings to allow fitment to a BB30 frame from us too if you need ’em.
Bell Star Pro helmet
Another amazing helmet GIF from the Animation House Of Merlin Cycles. As you can see, this is a helmet with adjustable on-the-fly open-close vents. Close the holes for aero mode. Slide them open to stop your noggin from overheating the rest of the time. It’s sort of two helmets for the price of one. Well, the price of one expensive helmet anyway!
