Our first Goods In this month sees a bumper crop of excellently shiny things for cyclists. And lots of books.
Some Christmas reading
This is just a dinky selection of the new book titles that we have in stock. Yep, it’s the season for buying books for cyclists (or for yourself). Histories, biographies, poignant memoirs, training guides, funny stories, photo annuals and much else besides. From top to bottom: Training With Power Meters, A Corinthian Endeavour (the story of the National Hill Climb Championship), The Escape Artist, The Obree Way, The Secret Race, The Year and The Eagle Of Canavese (Franco Balmamion and the Giro d’Italia).
The Spring Classics – Cycling’s Greatest One Day Races
Checkitout (this is an old post and the linked content no longer exists)
A whopping great coffee table book full of beautiful and inspiring photographs of yesteryear. This book gives a nicely even-handed coverage of all the previous decades of filthy springtime racing on the continent. It’s very readable, very browsable and very informative. This tome will get you looking forward to the spring classics even more than normal!
BBB Impress glasses
No-nonsense noggin wear from BBB. Affordable, inoffensive, decent lens, comfy fit. Sometimes we come across eywear like this and really do wonder why we bother splashing out on massively more expensive glasses. Some of the tints and optical clarity of fancy shades are a tiny bit better but is it really worth the money?
Northwave Devil sunglasses
These are the cycling shades that Spiderman would wear. What? You need some information to make you buy them? These are the cycling shades that Spiderman would wear. End of.
POC Iris DH lens
Checkitout (this is an old post and the linked content no longer exists)
This is not an empty box. If you look closely you can just about make out the clear lens nestled within. This particular version is a clear lens with built-in peg mounts for POC tear-off strips (this is an old post and the linked content no longer exists). For the POC downhillers who are still braving the filth in deep, dark woods.
Castelli Aero Speed gloves
Checkitout (this is an old post and the linked content no longer exists)
You want marginal gains? We have got some prime marginal gains for you! Check out these crazily configured claw covers. The idea of these gloves is to reduce wind resistance. A feature that is not well displayed in this photo due to the model wearing a size that’s too big for him!
Castelli Gara Midweight gloves
These are probably slightly more useful in the current weather. Made from Windstopper X-Fast fabric for wind protection. Close fitting inner cuff to prevent drafts. Micro suede thumb panel for nasal emergencies.
Castelli Isteria beanie
Checkitout (this is an old post and the linked content no longer exists)
Not a cheap beanie BUT it can be worn with the hem rolled up or down. Two looks in one! It’s also sort of looks like a Metallica beanie from certain angles. Four looks in one! And it is one of the better made and comfy beanies out there.
Castelli Quindici Soft socks
Quindici means fifteen. The cuffs on these cosy wool socks are 15cm. Which is basically bang on-trend so you’ve no worries on that front. This is nt just nay old wool either. It’s warm and wicking, odour-battling merino wool.
Defee Levitator Trail Bonehead sock
If you are a pirate on safari then these are ideal socks. This is being marketed as “the cutting edge Enduro sock”. Wowsers. Have you got some Enduro socks? You quite clearly need some in your life.
Evoc Race saddle pack
A compact, simple seat pack for carrying the bare minimum. No gimmicky features adding weight and complexity, just a nice colour and a cool graphic design. Crack on!
Orange stuff from Hope Technology
Orange is the new black. Well, orange is the new the anodising colour option from Hope anyway. We’ve got pretty much everything that Hope make in orange, in stock as of now. Could orange be this generation’s purple?
MET Elfo kids helmet
We are duty bound to feature every new kids helmet from MET in our Goods In blogs. This is a new 2016 Elfo and has a cute bear ‘n’ bee cartoon on the back and a striking rhubarb and custard colourway on the inside. MET are definitely making the coolest kids helmets right now.
MET Stradivarius helmet
In a world of hype about un-vented aero helmets that look… well, a bit special, it’s refreshing to see a high end helmet that prizes ventilation and a fast-looking aesthetic. This is the sort of helmet that arguably most of us are interested in. No one makes helmets as breezy as MET.
Bluegrass Golden Eyes helmet
We’ve been pleasantly surprised with the popularity of Bluegrass’ enduro helmets. This is a 2016 version of their flagship Golden Eyes model. What do you reckon to the colourway? I reckon it’s a striking fusion of Star Wars X-wing fighter pilot meets POC. Neither of which are a bad thing.
Torq energy drink powder
Not really a new-in-stock product but we were strolling the aisles in the warehouse and the Torq wall (or should that be Torq tower?) really caught our eye. Really nice packaging that happens to contain really nice flavoured nutrition stuff.
ONeal Fury Fidlock DH helmet
Checkitout (this is an old post and the linked content no longer exists)
We can’t imagine where ONeal got the inspiration for this MONSTRously green full-facer(!) Lightweight (950g) for a suib-£100 full facer. Goggles rest securely in place on ridge at back of shell. Sweat-absorbing and removable, washable inner liner. Height adjustable visor. ONeal’s Fidlock magnetic buckle for easy, single-handed fastening and release.
SDG Duster saddle
The Bel Air is SDG’s iconic saddle and this is sort of like an updated version of that shape. It’s a Bel Air that’s been put through a flexing and skinnying programme. With the added bonus of a ‘peri-canal’ ie. a cut-away section for gentlemen’s undercarriages.
Topeak Ratchet Rocket Lite
Checkitout (this is an old post and the linked content no longer exists)
AKA “that tool that you saw a few months ago that you cna now start to mention to your relatives with regards to scoring one as a Christmas present”. Get on it! As well as a mighty fine little trial tool, it’s just a great thing to have on your desk to fiddle and play with during idle moments of contemplation.
Silca HX-One Home and Travel Essential Kit
Speaking of Christmas… If you know someone who is willing to splash out £110 on your Xmas prezzie then you may wish to forward them this lust-worthy wooden box of delights.
Proviz jackets and gilets
None-more-bright jackets for commuters and anyone else who finds themselves riding a dark times during busy traffic periods. The whole lights up spectacularly when a beam of light hits it. There are a few different Proviz garments; the original Proviz jacket, a lighter weight more-breathable version, a couple of gilets and reversible hi-viz-yellow-on-the-inside versions too.
Movember mannequin
Our child mannequin is joining in with Movember this year. His facial growth so far is most impressive!
Autumn/Winter Merlin Wear
Meanwhile Bart Simpson is currently really enjoying the new range of Merlin Wear cycling apparel. Long sleeve jerseys, full length bib tights and some bits for your extremities.
Early Rider Spherovelo
Boxed-up like this the Spherovelo frequently attracts double-takes from passing customers. We can’t think why. If you’re not sure what the flip a Spherovelo actually is, click the link above.
Chiba Express Plus gloves
See that bit that says ‘OVER FLAP’ on it? That’s where an integral rain cover is stashed, a bit like the yellow ‘shower cap’ style cover you find on some rucksacks. It’s a novel idea that I’ve not seen before on a pair of gloves.
Topeak Combo Torq Wrench set
We all know that we’re not supposed to overtighten bolts. But we all probably still do. Enter this excellent tool. A simple, easy to use torque wrench which allows for correct tightening of bolts on frame and components to recommended torque values. Torque range: 3-12 Nm. Comes with 3/4/5/6mm Allen, T25 Torx bits.
FLR shoe fest!
We have FLR road and MTB shoes all at half price (or sometimes a bit more than half price). FOr those that don’t know, FLR are essentially Funkier’s range of footwear. Much like Funkier’s well-like clothing stuff, FLR shoes offer great performance without huge price tags. So with 50% knocked off the price as well – it’s a bit of a no-brainer. Get ’em while you can!
Giro Xar helmet
Why does this helmet have a little bear on the back? Does it mean that the helmet is certified to survive bear attacks? Unlikely. Judging from the mapping on the big red X panel I reckon the bear is a reference to the flag of the state of California. Did you know there was a bear on the California flag?
Merlin Tool bottles
The black bottles on the left are our new Tool Bottles. The see-through bottles on the right are our Water Bottles. The Tool Bottles fit in pretty much all bottle cages. Perfect for innertubes, tools, Co2 inflator etc. Durable composite material. 450ml (medium) or 600ml (large).
SiDi Hydro Gore-Tex boots
As the name suggests these shoes are both waterproof and warm. A winter version of Sidi’s very popular Genius 5 Road Shoe. The Sidi Hydro Gore Tex Winter Road Shoe is a beefed up version and are made from four different layers, ranging from a Gore-Tex inner lining, keeping the wind and moisture out, all the way out to a lorica outer layer for a durable and typically stylish exterior.
SiDi Avast Rain boots
These have been specially designed for winter cycling. Featuring a durable synthetic upper, the bike shoes have a weatherproof Rain membrane to keep your feet warm and dry, whilst the reinforced heel helps to keep your foot in optimum position at all times. Fastening securely with two Velcro straps on the front and a further one on the ankle, the cycling shoes also have an adjustable caliper buckle.
SiDi Buvel MTB shoes
Creep dummy on the upper deck
The cause of many a startled yelp this week.
