Off road Junior Duathlon supported by local GB Duathlete Katie Hewison. This is a fun event, held in the central park in Chorley Town Centre, for young people of all abilities from age 5.
May 9th, Astley Park, Chorley
We’ve just heard from recently retired professional triathlete Katie Hewison about a Junior Duathlon that’s happening local to us this weekend. It’s a kids duathlon that’s been named after her – the Katie Hewison Off Road Junior Duathlon.
The organisers – Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club – are hoping to at least double the entry numbers from last year’s event. So they’re looking at 500 children having a go for the 2015 race. The event is aimed at beginners, with people able to borrow bikes and equipment from the club if they order in advance.
Here’s the blurb from the event website…
“As part of the North West Junior Triathlon Series, the Tristar categories will have both local school pupils giving Duathlon a go for the first time, alongside North West athletes who have chosen Triathon to train towards as a weekly activity. The Tristar categories will be chip timed, with the school team events manually timed. All juniors are encouraged to complete their chosen distance and receive a medal.
“The event will be held on the central field of Astley Park, Chorley, with all sections being completed on grass. Any bike type is permitted. Helmets must be worn, and bikes must be in a road worthy condition.
“Organised by Chorley Athletic & Triathlon Club, the event will be run with the support of Chorley School Sport Partnership and Chorley Council. Any junior who attends a Chorley school will earn points for their Primary or Secondary school, whatever distance they complete.
“Bikes and helmets can be borrowed by Chorley school pupils if required. Please advise the organisers when booking.
“Entry is £12 per individual athlete, or £6 if you go to a Chorley School. To obtain the discount you must select the school you attend on the registration form. For any school team entries, please use Chorley SSP entry form. Youngsters (age 5-7) is a fun, un-timed race, for siblings and keen young athletes.
“European Duathlon Champion Katie Hewison has confirmed she will be attending the event.”
