Despite a checkered history of wars, skirmishes and more recently just general micky taking, we have lots of respect for the big county next door. Here is a quick preview of what to expect in the Men&#8217;s and Women&#8217;s event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Route<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Stage 1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Doncaster to Selby would seem a pretty flat ride, the route takes a detour east, to Beverley and a lumpy trip through the Yorkshire Wolds. Baggaby Hill holds the KOM points for the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"587\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/TDFStarbotton.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26539 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/TDFStarbotton.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/TDFStarbotton-768x451.jpg 768w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1000px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1000\/587;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Stage 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barnsley to Bedale on stage two, is a relatively flat trip up to the north of the county. The route includes a tricky climb at Lindley, near Otley, before continuing through Harrogate (Home of the 2019 Road World Championships) and up to the finish in Bedale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stage 3<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking a challenging route between two classic seaside towns, the ride from Bridlington to Scarborough will be no walk in the park. Five tough northern climbs will could well create havoc, the usual strong sea breezes in the area will also likely have a big role to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"645\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/tdfstarbotton2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26542 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/tdfstarbotton2.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/tdfstarbotton2-768x495.jpg 768w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1000px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1000\/645;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Stage 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final stage should prove to be the toughest, with 5 climbs through this scenic jaunt through the Yorkshire Dales. West Yorkshire provides the start and finish towns in the form of Halifax and Leeds. The final run in to Leeds should be a fitting climax to 4 days of racing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Men&#8217;s Teams<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch out for the world cycling big hitters including Team Ineos (formerly Team Sky), Team Katushas Alpacin, CCC Team and Dimension Data. Last year&#8217;s winner, Greg Van Avermaet (CCC), has been prominent through the early season classics and will also be in the running for the general classification. Local multi World Championships winner, Tom Pidcock (Team Wiggins), will also be keen to showcase his talents on his local roads. The women&#8217;s event is fairly wide open; Otley&#8217;s Lizzie Deignan (Trek Segafredo)  is returning to racing after giving birth to her first child last year.
