The last thing anyone wants to do when they climb off their bike, is give it a clean. However! As we all know, the best way to make your bike last and keep working properly is to keep it clean. Got 10 minutes?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ve had a shower, got dressed, maybe had a brew, right now is the best time to give it a clean, while the ride  endorphins are still pumping, you are still in your post-ride happy place, feeling unbridled love for your bike. Get &#8216;ur bucket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1303\" height=\"732\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/w2t.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32922 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1303px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1303\/732;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wheels Out<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a workstand or something to hang your bike from, get your bike on it and drop out the wheels. This is a good chance to clean the bits where wheels make it tricky to clean, such as the chain stays and under the fork crown. It&#8217;s also a good time to spot any future issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"2016\" height=\"980\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/mech.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32923 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 2016px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 2016\/980;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check Bolts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When I dropped the wheels out I noticed the rear deraileur bolt had rattled itself loose after a fair amount of gravel miles &#8211; also explains annoying gear issue on my last ride. A quick &#8216;once-over&#8217; to make sure eveything is still tight should prevent issues out on the road and trails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1271\" height=\"710\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/w5t.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32924 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1271px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1271\/710;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wheels Clean<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Time for a gentle rinse, I use a garden hose with a sprinkler, power washers can be a bit too powerful and blast through seals and remove grease particularly from bottom bracket and headset bearings. If you use a pressure washer try to avoid bearing seals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Give the wheels a quick wash and remove any build of of gunk between the cassette sprockets. This gunk is the dirt, dust and old lubricant from previous rides. A quick check around the rim, tyre and spokes should alert you to any issues. If you are running tubeless tyres this could be a good time to add a little sealant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1286\" height=\"743\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/w7t.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32925 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1286px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1286\/743;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rinse and Repeat!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the wheels are slotted back in, clean the chain using a chain bath or an old T shirt and degreaser, before drying off and applying a little fresh chain lube. 10 Minutes done!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1197\" height=\"692\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/w6t.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32926 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1197px;
