This will make it easier to ride and also won\u2019t put you off from using it.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure the saddle is the correct height, you\u2019re not too stretched out or bunched up and pump your tyres up to the correct pressure as this makes it easier to push.<\/p>\n<h2>Kit<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/cycling-bib-shorts-75343\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=blog-35\">Get some padded shorts<\/a> to make the seated area more comfortable and don\u2019t wear any underwear underneath them.<\/p>\n<p>Lycra shorts can be worn under other clothing if you don\u2019t want it on show or baggy mountain bike shorts are much more forgiving and also have a padded liner in them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/cycling-gloves-mitts-75351\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=blog-35\">A pair of gloves<\/a> will also make your hands more comfortable and help wipe sweat away from the face.<\/p>\n<h2>Have a plan<\/h2>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve decided that you are going to cycle more then make a plan of how many times you are going to ride per week and stick to it.<\/p>\n<p>Do a weekly plan and build it up a little each week, slightly longer distance or more time spent cycling, so you push yourself slightly more as time goes on.<\/p>\n<p>Keep a record of the plans and the rides you did as they great for looking back on and seeing how far you\u2019ve progressed since you started after a few weeks.<\/p>\n<h2>Stay hydrated<\/h2>\n<p>Make sure you have enough fluids with you on the ride.<\/p>\n<p>Attach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/bottle-cages-75406\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=blog-35\">a water bottle cage<\/a> to your bike and take a bottle with you or at least carry a plastic bottle if you have pockets if you haven\u2019t got a cage.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a backpack then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.merlincycles.com\/hydration-packs-75407\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=blog-35\">use a bladder drinking system<\/a> if you are planning any longer rides. Having a few light snacks or fruit with you to eat on slightly longer rides will fuel your efforts and stop you gorging when you get home or worse still getting the hunger knock while riding.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure the snacks are light though, no point eating more than you are burning.<\/p>\n<h2>Use the bike instead of the car<\/h2>\n<p>If you have a short journey to make, why not use the bike instead of the car. We all know what it\u2019s like to come home from work tired and do all the usual things and by then you\u2019ve either talked yourself out of it or there\u2019s no time left.<\/p>\n<p>Get up a bit earlier and go for a ride, trust us you\u2019ll enjoy it.<\/p>\n<h2>Push it hard every now and then<\/h2>\n<p>Don\u2019t be afraid to push it a little bit on your rides.
