DT Swiss PR 1600 Spline 32 Clincher Road Wheelset - 700c

The PR 1600 SPLINE 32 is characterized by its super stiff and lightweight medium profile aluminium rim. Stiffness is generated via the big cross-section and thanks to the 18mm internal width and the tubeless ready design, it is ideally equipped for the use of modern road bike tyres. The PR 1600 SPLINE 32 is a wheel that excels on any terrain. It transfers every bit of energy into forward momentum and takes every corner with Swiss precision.

J CLARK Excellent wheelset. Average speeds went up about 10-15% without increasing effort. And that DT Swiss freehub sound is so satisfying
Mr Fowler Really pleased with my wheels, these were upgrade on my previous DT Swiss. Roll very well! Arrived in quick time well packaged.
Ming Installed with GP5000 for 3 rides. Enjoy the momentum when speed up. Love the confidence when cornering at downhill.
Mr Ferera Great set of wheels! Super responsive and smooth cycling. Would definitely recommend
Mr Marsh Superb wheels brilliant price arrived next day. Super smooth super responsive and an obvious choice at this price point no need to look at anything else if alloy rim brake clinchers are required to endure the roads and weather in the UK. An excellent upgrade worth every penny.!
Leo After reading independent reviews and given the brilliant reputation of DT Swiss hubs, the PR 1600 seemed the obvious choice for my new winter hoops. Performance on the rough North Yorkshire roads is outstanding. Build quality is excellent, much lighter than my Mavic Pro. I’ll be replacing my Zipp 303 summer wheels for DT Swiss. From ordering to delivered was 23hrs. Brilliant service.
Mr Riley As good as you’d expect from DT Swiss . Even the skewers are great quality. Set up tubeless with GP5000s was hassle free
Mr Tse Received this wheelset within 4 days in Canada. They are stiff, light, solidly built and sharp looking. Easy to setup with the 25mm tubeless tires. First few rides in flat and climbs were great with superb performance and great response. Excellent quality wheels with excellent price! Highly recommended!
Mr Nimmer Great set of wheels. The hubs roll nicely and setting up tubeless tires were breeze. It will hold air for several days at high pressures. Set my fastest 40K times the first time I used them.
Mrs jackson Fantastic wheels, the hubs are really smooth, great build quality at an excellent price from Merlin
Mr BRADLEY I LIKE THE 1ST PAIR SO MUCH THAT I ORDERED ANOTHER SET FOR MY OTHER BIKE. VERY GOOD VALUE AND DT SWISS BRAND HAS BEEN GOOD FOR ME.
paul Very sturdy and nice looking wheels. Look the part on the cyclo X Cannondale I’m making into a go anywhere touring bike.
Chris H So far so good! Received in 2 days, fitted and over 100 miles done in the first week, what a difference to my old Fulcrum wheels much truer and faster rolling PB's all the way, hope they have the stamina to match the performance
James winter Really impressed, they roll really nicely, fast and responsive- Combined with conti 5000 32mm are super comfy and cope admirably with the terrible roads in this country.
Erich These wheels are sweet! They arrived in Kansas 4 days after ordering them without any issues. True, fast spinning, and at a great deal! I’m a Merlin fan now, and feel a bit silly for being skeptical. Sometimes when a deal seems to be too good to be true, it’s just a great deal I guess. Might upgrade to a 54t ratchet in the future but these are light years better than my prior wheels. 200 miles in and my times are better and my confidence is improved.
Tom look great and very responsive so far. good value for money at Merlin
Martin Replacements to an ageing pair of R1800's. Excellent upgrade, feel smoother on the road, look good on the bike and braking is fierce.
Jordan Smooth and quiet (so far). Arrived true. Was a huge upgrade from my previous wheel set.
Mr SHIH HO good wheel set.
Mr Pickering An excellent pair of wheels. Smooth riding and very robust on British Roads
Robert I currently ride on RR21 and find them exceptional. I needed to get some relief for them and decided on the PR1600s. They are so different in feel to the RR21s: when accelerating they get up very quickly and they stay fast. They are quiet and stiff. I have shod them with the Conti 5000s and I am delighted with the feel of the combination. The truth is I think these wheels are punching way above their weight when you consider the performance relative to the price. DT Swiss produce fine wheels.
Mr Gunn What a superb set of wheels. Bought to replace my Fulcrum wheels. Smooth running and understated looks and top value
Cezary Accurately made with a superb hub, bearings replaceable with industry standard ones widely available at low cost. Little on the heavy side, but that's what comes with semi-aero alloy wheels. Roll beautifully and sound just great! Recommended for training / amateur racing on flats.
Scott Jordan I will start by saying I really like this wheelset. They look fantastic and perform well above the sale price at Merlin Cycles. At 235lbs, I have had my wheels built with 32 spokes front and back for years. And with enough money, I can get the weight pretty low and the durability pretty high. So hand built wheels are my baseline for assessing the PR1600s. I opted for the 32mm wheelset because I wanted an aluminum wheel with more rim depth and need the added durability DT Swiss claimed in their product marketing. It was also for looks and I expected no performance gain at 32mm over the 27mm I have been riding. DT Swisss reputation, the wheels appearance and claimed weight support for 130kg made these my first choice. Merlins price sealed the deal. The out of the box experience was very good. The wheels were flawless and straight. I had issues with tightness mounting a pair of 25mm vittoria corsa g+ tires but my continental 4 season, also 25mm, mounted without tools and little effort. I thought about going tubeless but recalled several afternoons spent scraping sealant off my bikes post ride and getting pissed when my tires lost 20osi overnight. Tube it is for me for the time being. I also replaced the 18t ratchet with the 36t ratchet immediately. This was breeze and required no tools. I cant speak to the performance of the 18t ratchet but have read many complain about delays on engagement. I am not a racer or climber so this decision was purely based on my experience with the engagement performance on my hope rs4 hubs. The wheels ride a nicer than I expected and feel livelier than I imagined with their 1700 plus kg stated weight. First ride was a flat 35 miles over varied road conditions. Smooth, rough, downright broken. The front wheel deflected a bit but the wheels held up well. No spoke pings or anything to indicate a less than perfect build. My second ride was a 45 mile ride with 2200 feet of climbing. 2200 feet over 45 miles is what we in south Texas would consider mountains, especially on a windy day. They performed extremely well in the hills, again feeling stiff and lively. After two fairly rough rides with a heavy pilot, the wheels are still flawless. The ratchet system has a bit more resistance then the hope rs4 pawl hubs I am used to but reading indicates there is a break in period and they seem a bit less resistant after two rides than they did out of the box. In summary, I am very pleased with the set, especially considering the price, brand, appearance and performance. These are an absolute value at Merlins price and I would not have felt them a bad deal at their msrp. Shipping took a little longer than expected but considering they crossed an ocean and changed shipping companies two or three times, I feel no need to complain about it. They arrived when they said they would and thats good enough for me. I have already recommended them to friends and recommended they buy them from Merlin or pay twice as much for the same item. Its a no brainer in my opinion. Thanks Merlin!
Mr Read Fantastic wheels - skewers a lovely touch but a bit weird at first ... wheels look stunning and a perfect upgrade for my bike from the standard wheels it came with. Quick delivery and well packaged from Merlin. On first ride my average speed is up (assume its due to the rolling resistance).
Mr Baker Merlin helped me with a couple of queries before ordering and were very helpful. Once ordered the delivery was prompt and the updates were useful. Just one ride on these wheels so far and they feel responsive and quick, they are keen to roll and a definite upgrade on the stock aksiums that came stock with my bike.
Uli Great Wheels, have done about 4.500km and they still run true and easy, like the day I got them. I fitted Hutchinson Fusion Performance tubeless which went on with the usual "bang" using an "Airshot" bottle. Tyres are sitting good in the rim. The wheels are extremely well balanced. The only thing is they left a spoke nipple in the front wheel which comes loose sometimes on the rough New Zealand roads and disrupt those "stealth wheels". It took about 3 to 4 days to arrive in Auckland (about half the world around) and another week to get to Dunedin (about 1.5h by air), due to slow system at customs. Good tracking, and of course great service from Merlin Cycles.
Zachary These wheels are strong, stiff, fairly light and look great too. No problems flexing. Rear spoke nipples started making clicking noises after a while, so I lightly lubed them with silicon lube. All silent now.
stefan Well built solid wheels. No tubeless nightmares with these wheels. Instant inflation with floor pump. I used Schwalbe tubeless Pro One. Definitely an upgrade from my RS10.
Mr Peters Nice hubs spin forever and quiet freehub. Decent overall weight and spin up nicely. Rims are semi deep and decent width for 23 or 25mm tyres. My only criticism is that bracing angle on rear wheel could be better, non drive side should be further outboard. Some brake rub when cranking or cornering hard, but I am 100kgs. Front wheel has great bracing angle, and 20 spokes so is very solid.
Mr Harris Great set of aero alloy wheels. Really quiet and smooth free hub
Rory Great wheels for the money, good depth and feel relatively stiff the rim is also a decent width works perfectly with a 25mm
PM Silky smooth hubs and nice wide rims, feel pretty rugged and I'm hoping they survive the millions of pot holes that we have to contend with these days. Only negatives, to say the rims are pretty wide it was a battle getting GP4000s 25mm on and the DT Swiss QR skewers are not to everyone's fancy. Otherwise if you want some solid training wheels these could be your ticket.
