Giro Aether Spherical MIPS Road Bike Helmet
The Aether MIPS combines airy, open design with a revolution in rotational energy management to advance head protection for cyclists. Inside the Aether, a dual-density EPS foam liner helps to manage a wide range of impact energies, while also boasting deep internal channeling to provide cooling airflow. Giro's proprietary MIPS Spherical technology is integrated between the layers of EPS foam – instead of against the rider’s head – giving riders the benefits of MIPS without any obstruction to comfort or cooling power. Outside, a sleek 6-piece shell forms a stunning silhouette around the massive vents, which get added structural reinforcement via a shatter-resistant AURA reinforcing arch. The final touch is our Roc Loc 5+ Air fit system, featuring 3-way fit tuning, that allows easy adjustment in seconds for the ultimate in comfort.

Giro Helmet Sizing Chart

AlexI am very pleased with the Aether helmet. Good air flow, keeps my head much cooler than my previous helmet. It took a couple of rides for me to get the straps adjusted just right, but once I got it the helmet was very comfortable on my head.
MatthewI've tried several helmets which seem to have MIPs added as an after-thought; designers have simply shoved the generic MIPs yelllow plastic inner shell into an existing helmet..... The Giro Ather is different, there is no plastic internal shell, instead the helmet itself has two shells (i.e. MIPs is actually built into the helmet shell, not an after-thought). For many, this might not be a problem, and it wouldn't be for me if the genreic MIPs shell fitted my head, but it doesn't - all helmets I've tried with the generic MIPs shell squeeze my temples and make it very uncomfortable.... The Ather is very comfortable to wear, and for that reason alone it works for me.... Yes it's very expensive, and there's probably other helmets a lot cheaper that are also comfortable, but my last helmet lasted me 10 years (I know they should be replaced more frequently than that) and I expect to use this one for a number of years as well, so overall the cost is not so bad to swallow - especially at the sale price.
MattVery happy with the helmet. Great fit and great airflow.
Mr HowieGreat helmet and great price. Good ventilation and should be good for the summer
RaphaelThe Aether is the best fitting and most comfortable, light weight helmet I've ever encountered. The adjustment system functions perfectly and the MIPS operation is able to manipulated by hand to illustrate how it would work on impact.
Mr ShaleGreat helmet at a great price. Very comfortable
Mr IrelandPerfectly replaced my previous Giro Ionos helmet. Sizing and shape matched, which is handy when buying online.
AlvinGreat helmet. Good ventilation and looks great! Although the sizing is a bit smaller compared to my old non-MIPS Synthe.
GlenVI wanted a helmet that combined MIPS safety, lightweight and an excellent fit. That's the Giro Aether and you won't find it at a better price right now!
Mr WinserThis helmet replaces my much older 2005 Giro that saved my head when I was hit by a car blasting through a stop sign. My shoulder needed surgery and my head had no damage from hitting the pavement. This new Giro fits almost exactly like my last one. From my perception, the new Giro 2019 Aether MIPS Road Bike Helmet seems to sit on my head a little lower than what I am used to but I could be wrong. The fit of this Roc-Loc Air is better than my original Roc-Loc back of the head adjuster. I did compare this helmet with other helmets but other helmets have different ways of sizing. I did not want to take the chance of getting a helmet that could be either too big or too small. I ordered a medium helmet because this was the same as my broken helmet. It fits perfectly and thank you Giro for saving my head.
VincentFits a little bigger than the Giro Synthe, but overall still a great helmet. Straps are grey for the white helmet (FYI).
Mr FoxA high-end helmet for not too much money, thanks to Merlin. It takes a few wears to set up properly but once done it's comfortable as well as safer than other helmets.
Mr P WGreat helmet, really comfortable and looks great in white. Fantastic price from Merlin Cycles. Thank you.
Mr EleftheroglouYou get what you pay for...quality helmet you never get wrong with giro helmets...fast delivery
GaryBeautifully made and finished helmet. Fits well and is easily adjustable . Add in the incorporated MIPS and this is a real winner
Mr JacksonGreat lid. Much improved airflow compared to my previous helmet. Great price too
Mr hutchinsonTop class, looks and feels great
SteveGreat helmet at a great price. Does exactly what it says on the lid! Excellent vents for long summer rides and good fit- have to check I’ve put it on! Not the lightest on the market but it feels like it will do the job in the unfortunate event of a serious spill. A step up from my previous Giro helmet. Very happy customer.
SusanExcellent helmet as expected from Giro. Light and comfortable and the extra airflow is a bonus on long, hot hills.
Mr McClementsGreat helmet. Light with lots of ventilation. Fits well and the Rocloc system provides plenty of adjustment on your head.
SimoneThe helmet has a nice design and is very comfortable.
Mr cookGreat fit and comfortable on long rides with good ventilation. Worth the money. Good service from merlin also
CBReally pleased with this helmet. Light, comfortable, highly adjustable. Really well ventilated too.
Mr Vanzinspedizione veloce 5 giorni lavorativi, il casco è il modello 2019/2020 la mia misura è 58 cm il casco misura M è giusto, ottimo casco a un ottimo prezzo tutto perfetto grazie.
Paulearly days since I bought this but initial review is that it is particularly light ,comfortable and well ventilated .
BrettBest helmet I've owned great air flow and light.
Mr GotzyGreat helmet, if you are 59cm buy size M!!
Mr PHaving used a Bell Super 3r MTB helmet for road biking for a while, felt it was time to improve my forward visibility when on the drops. This new helmet is very comfortable and light , I also noticed a massive improvement on airflow . Overall very happy with it.
JimGreat Helmet. Comfortable and in these cold days works very well with a skull cap. Bought a second one for my son which arrived yesterday. Fits him very well. Delivery was fast and price from Merlin was very competitive. Very satisfied with helmets and service.
Jonathan WI found this a few notches up from my last Mojito helmet. It’s super lightweight as well having lots of vents. I’ve yet to ride it in warm weather but expect it to come into its own come the summer. Pricey option (I didn’t want to skimp on safety, hence the MIPS) so wait until it’s on special offer - I paid under £150.
Mr StintonAn excellent product I use daily
Mr CampbellThe helmet is great, light and fits easily and well. One issue is the rear fitting band has pointed edges that dig into the back of my neck meaning I have to keep to helmet slacker than I prefer relying on the bands.
BrychThis is a magnificent helmet, the large fit my huge head even with a casquette on. it feels secure, the adjustment is easy and it looks amazing
JonathanI had one of these helmets previously, and was involved in quite a nasty crash. My head hit the floor first, followed shortly afterwards by my shoulder. Pretty much the only parts of my body that weren't injured were my head and neck, so the helmet obviously did it's job! The Mips SP system is brilliant and the crush-proof structure did it's job when my head got run over by another rider. Invest in good helmets!
KEVINVery happy with this product, comfortable and looks class, my glasses fit perfect on it
IJllight and comfortable helmet, very well ventilated and looks great
Mr O'DriscollI purchased this helmet to replace my old Giro Aeon. Compared with an Aeon I find it sits lower on my head. This makes it feel snug and very comfortable. However as it sits lower I find I need to be careful how it lines up with my cycling glasses. If the helmet moves down on my forehead it makes contact with the tops of the glasses. I read a review where a customer sent his back because of this and a sizing issue. For me it is slightly annoying for me but can be overcome. I marked it 4 out of 5 because of this. Apart from this the helmet is really very comfortable. Also I had no issue with the size. It matches the size of previous 3 Giro helmets (Aeon x 2 and Synthe) I have owned. I went for the Aether because of the added safety feature of MIPS . A friend suffered a concussion recently so I became much more aware of concussion as an issue. MIPS design in this helmet is excellent, its really well integrated into the design, as a result you don't notice this extra layer of protection. I would say you have added safety and a more comfortable helmet than the Aeon. As I have only worn the helmet in winter so far I can't really comment on the heat dissipation. That said both the external air ducts and the channels cut in the EPS to assist air flow are bigger than those on the Aeon so airflow should be better. Aesthetically, in my view, this is a great looking and really stylish helmet. I like the shape, the way the air ducts are formed, the twin colouring, the textured giro logo. It has really good attention to detail in the design. A lot of thought went into how this helmet looks and it shows. The internal padding is larger than Giro used on either the Aeon or Synthe and adds to the comfort. As with my previous Giro helmets the retention mechanism is really good and very easy to adjust with one hand. Its a light helmet. Reading the spec I see its a few grams heavier than the Aeon but really I don't notice this when wearing the helmet. Also its a small price to pay for the added safety features. Price and delivery wise I found Merlin really excellent. Thanks
