Mr PriceI wanted some road wheels with good bearings that I don't have to mess about with. Cup and cone is tried and tested and can be serviced, but it's annoyingly fiddly. I have Hope wheels on my mountain bike and they've been excellent, so went for a road set as well. The wheels fit, everything rolls well, the free hub has that nice Hope sound like a nest of angry wasps. Wheel build out of the box seems good, nothing loose and everything feels solid. The Mavic Open Pro rims look good with a silver rim-brake surface, purely personal taste but I prefer that look over the standard deep rims that many disc specific rims end up with. Only done 30 or 40 miles on them so far but everything feels good. If there's a downside, they're slightly heavier than my old wheels but that's not going to have much effect on my cycling.
J. KellyAmazing wheels, love the click on the rear freewheel it sounds so good. I've got Hope hubs on my 1998 Kona that I still use daily so it was a no brainer to get these for my cyclocross bike. Fit the best - fit Hope.
JamieWow... these wheels are amazing. I have a 1998 Kona Fire Mountain with Hope hubs that I fitted in about 2000 and they are still going strong so I decided to get these for my cyclocross and I am not disappointed. The click on the rear hub is just brilliant, now everyone knows I ride Hope hubs. 10/10.
ThomasThis is my second set of these wheels. Liked them so much I bought this pair for my girlfriend"s bike. Strong and hold true pretty well. And who doesn't like the angry bee sound of the rear hub?
Jason WBought this rear wheel to replace a Mavic Aksium that had a freehub seemingly made of camembert. Wasn't intending to buy the front but this rear was like switching on a light. Taken off one star because they don't come with a QR skewer which seems a little parsimonious. The freewheel buzz is epic and I'm delighted that mine stands out over everyone else's on a group ride...
CraggybendI have spent months looking for a good quality reasonably priced cyclecross wheel, disc compatible. Found this on Merlin's website. I have had Hope wheels on a 29 er for some years and they have been faultless, so bought a front wheel to replace an awful Giant wheel. First ride and the difference was immediate, smooth, fast and very responsive. Now knowing how good the front one is am going to have to buy the rear!
