Great bike at a great price, Merlin were excellent to deal with & really glad I made them my choice after looking at numerous bikes online & in stores. Love the bike rides great & I've broken lots of my PB times already a few local rides, Thanks Merlin.....
Excellent value, lightweight ally frame and good components. Have put in a good few hours on it already and I haven't had any problems. A couple of gears are slipping but I just need to adjust those. All good things to say.
Very nice to ride, smooth and responsive. Had to wait a while for the bike to be built due to busy period but delivery was very quick. After my first ride felt happy with the bike even though I did have a couple of chips in the clear coat which can't be helped.
Excellent spec - great looking bike, great price and rides really well. Very happy
First off I'd like to thank the staff at Merlin for great service and bike building. I ordered two malt-r bikes for myself and brother in law. We`re new to road bikes so after many weeks of searching on line we found Merlin, the malt-r had everything we were looking for with alu frame, carbon forks and tiagra group set at half the price of bike shops in Dublin, the build quality is great and paint looks excellent, we have only been out on them a few times but I'm very happy, looking forward to clocking up many more miles;)
Simply "why go any where else" Merlin Cycles Sets The Standard! A loyal returning customer l certainly am! Customer Service is the back bone of Merlin Cycles. Merlin delivers an outstanding road bike. The Malt R custom build is not only comfortable over long rides and well built. The components from the handle bars, stem, chain set are of high quality. Upgraded to 105 groupset. Frame is of excellent quality. Body work (paint, graphics) is stunning. Excellent packaging and delivery once build completed. Excellent communications: Customer service delt with all of my enquiries quickly, and concisely. A big THANK YOU to Merlin Cycles Customer Service Team and Merlin Technical/Mechanics Team.
My first road bike and what an amazing machine, rides effortlessly and was perfectly set up on delivery so good to go right from the box. Easily the highest spec bike available for the price
So pleased with my new bike. As noted on the site it took a couple of weeks to build but was delivered in great packaging and only front wheel, handlebars, and seat stem to be fitted. Very easy with just a trusty multi tool. Great bike which has obviously been assembled with care. Perfectly tuned etc. I bought a 56cm at 174cm tall and is a good fit for me. Very pleased with a bike that is great value for what you get comfortably under 1000
I have a Merlin MTB and have shopped with these guys on and off for over 8 years. They provide a great service at some of the best prices around, I trust the advice they give and the service they provide. I was in the market for a road bike and was all set to buy a Boardman until I realised Merlin had their own range. I spec'd the bike to the main competition and nothing can touch it. The frame is nicely finished, good paint job and looks great. The tubing is oversized and gives the look of something costing much more. I am an in between frame size - I got myself measured up in two shops before ordering and they confirmed this. I went for the 56cm at 5 10", I spoke to Merlin and they gave the same advice. It is slightly too big to be perfect but not bad at all, it certainly isn't too big. For me the next size down would have been too compact. The components at this price are untouchable, even Boardman cannot give this level of equipment at the price and the Merlin frame looks much better in my opinion. So, apart from the frame and components, the main reason I went back to Merlin is the quality in the build. This bike has been put together by people who know how to build a bike. All I had to do is fit the pedals and the handlebars. No tuning of the gears or brakes etc and everything is as smooth as smooth can be, my MTB was exactly the same. It is clear that the bike is built with pride and enjoyment. I have had the bike 5 weeks now and it is still rattle free and I ride daily. I have no reservations in giving the bike and service 5 out of 5.
Fantastic value, looks great and should last me a while before I start planning upgrades. Nice and light and I doubt you'll find a new bike with this spec for a lower price. Great service and came complete with just the bars and pedals to fit (took 15 minutes to set up for a ride).
Having had a Merlin MTB myself for the last 7 years and built trials bikes for my kids and their friends using Merlin frames, I know that the quality & finish of Merlin products is very high. When value is taken into account I think they are unbeatable! I bought an entry level (well-known brand) to get into road cycling over the winter and it did the job, or so I thought. Since buying the Merlin Malt R I now realise how budget the old bike was. With the Merlin, I now have an amazingly light bike for the money, well under 10 kilos with bottle cages & pedals fitted, smooth gear changes and lovely handling. Everything worked straight out of the box once handlebars fitted and pedals on; only a very minor adjustment of the front mech was required on the first outing. I am 6ft tall and the 56cm frame fits me perfectly, the riding position is sporty but comfortably, seems made to measure. I spent several months researching bikes including some costing over twice as much as the Merlin and I think I have made a very good choice, dont think there is a bike with such a high spec to be had anywhere for the money. Finish is superb, and getting a lot of admiring glances and the usual how much? But just to show a balanced view, its not all positive, I had a while to wait for delivery, when you live in the Highlands; Parcelforce 48 takes over 6 days to deliver!
