Merlin Performance PR7 Road Bike - Shimano Claris 8 Speed Drivetrain

The Merlin PR7 is an unbeatable value entry level road bike rivalling bikes out there that are twice the price. With a classic, understated look it’s not just a good-looking bike, it’s a great riding bike too with the performance to match its elegant and modern appearance.

Featuring a sophisticated aluminium frame paired with a carbon fork and quality Shimano gearing with Mavic equipped wheels the Merlin PR7 is an excellent example of how technology which was previously found on much more expensive machines trickles down to entry level road bikes.

General information about our shipping
This is my first ever road bike and I couldn't be happier with it. It has an unbelievable specification for the price and it rides brilliantly. Furthermore, it looks great too. I would certainly recommend this anyone looking to getting into cycling.
First of all, the delivery was excellent! It was quick and convenient. It took only 2 days to deliver to Finland! The assembly was simple and didn't require much effort. The bike itself is really smooth to ride. The original saddle that came with it was very hard so I replaced it. 8 gears seem more than enough but there is quite a huge gap in the front gears: the size difference is rather big. Also, the front derailleur tends to push the chain out of the front gears when you change it too quickly. That is slightly inconvenient... Also the taping in the handlebar started bulging out on one spot. Other than those little cons, this bike is a superb choice. I'd recommend it to anyone who want's to get their first road bike or is looking for a good budget road bike.
I'll admit this will obviously be a little biased as it is my first road bike & I love it. Everything runs smoothly and as it should, it's a joy to steer when you get up to speed. Reassuringly solid despite it's fairly light weight. Components are all what you'd expect, nothing astounding but do the job well. Good range of sizes available by adjusting the stem, saddle etc. Not only that but when it's clean and in the sun it looks very smart without being flashy. Would definitely recommend this to someone as a first road bike, ideal for training for a sportive or something similar.
I purchased this Bike for my Son , his 1st Road bike. I spent a lot of time looking at the various options available within the price bracket I had in mind. I came across Merlin in my searches and was impressed by the Spec level and the look for the price paid. It arrived well packed and was straight forward to assemble. it was put straight on my trainer for Jake to get used to the Gears etc which were perfectly tuned meaning his first ride out allowed him to enjoy the bike and our hobby. A very nice bike and perfect for the job.
Unbelievable cycle! Could not be happier with my first ever road bike!
Feels like a Rolls Royce after my old Raleigh, it is very stable and responsive, loving it. Also easy on my 70 year old legs
Perfect bike for the price, absolutely gorgeous paintjob, shimano groupset performs flawless!
This is my 1st road bike and I had worries in buying one. But this bike has fixed them all. It's fab. The frame is solid the gears are good. It's very light and looks great. Balancing on it is easy even at the red lights. Dimensions are great and I am 6'2 and the tyres seem fast and strong. I have nearly clocked 100 miles on it in the 1st week and have enjoyed all in sunshine and heavy rain. Yes the seat is not the most sympathetic on the ass but good shorts and it's fine. I was on a Chris boardmen hybrid before that cost a lot more and this PR7 leaves it for dead in all areas. My only fault is the brakes are a little spongy but they stop you ok and with a little tweak will be fine, don't think it's a good idea to be skidding around anyway. Delivery was quick too, Thanks merlin
First road bike ever bought by myself. Impressed is an understatement! Well made, lighter than my Cube Stereo but to be expected. Bought it solely with the intention of getting work on its almost halved my time compared to my old rocklobster I used to have for work.
Really impressed. Stable, reasonably light, silent running. This is an absolute steal.
First road bike, comfortable and smooth and looks fantastic.
First road bike I've bought in nearly 20 years, spent many months contemplating various models and makes. Firstly it looks great, its lighter than I expected, rides very well, gears are smooth, brakes work well and I'm very happy with my purchase. I would highly recommend the PR7 for anyone thinking of buying their first road bike.
First, of all, I should mention the excellent packaging that this bike came in. I live in the USA, so was slightly concerned about the international shipping; I didn't have to worry. The folk who packed this bike did a superb job, and it was extremely easy to assemble myself. I do plan to have it tuned up at a local bike shop, but I have to give high marks for the packaging. The shipping was very quick as well. I received my item within 1 week of placing the order. As for the quality of the bike itself: I am thrilled. I'm a beginning road rider so, admittedly, I don't have a lot of experience on this type of bike. That said, I've ridden other types of bikes most of my life, so I do generally know a good bike when I ride it. I settled on this one largely because of the price--even with the cost of shipping I couldn't come close to the advertised quality for the price in any other bike. That, of course, has to hold up on the road, and this one seems to do just that. Couldn't be happier with the ride and the components all seem really top notch to me. Looking forward to years of riding this guy.
This was supposed to be a gift and I had miscalculated the size and the relative disconfort of the saddle. This is a sturdy bike for a medium height, fit male rider, good on flat, dry surfaces (not on country roads). Very light as compared to its competitors (at only 10kg), it boasts Shimano gears and comes with free Shimano pedals and race road cycling shoes (if you like using these for leisure or daily commuting). I would only recommend this if you've used a similar type of bike, and you know exactly what to expect. Never buy them as a gift, though! Better still, have a look at them in a shop before ordering on the internet.
Simply a great bike for the price. Also when compared to other entry level bikes that are pricier, the PR7 holds it own as well. Carbon Forks could absorb road shocks better but again that is if one was looking for a fault. Great bike, great price. Highly recommend to all new cyclists.
A lovely ride - this bike is fast yet comfortable. The claris gearing works smoothly and the bike looks great.
Having done a good amount of mileage on the PR7 I have to say that it is great value for money road bike. I am new to road cycling and the quality of the bike has really given me confidence. Having researched the other products in the large market at this price, the Merlin PR7 seems to be miles ahead in most aspects. A great deal and fantastic service!
Purchased as a Christmas present for my 13 year old son as an entry road bike. The PR7 is a great package with looks that would imply a much higher price tag.
Hands down the best bike you can get for the money, thoroughly pleased with it. Rear derailleur needed slight adjustment after a few days but other than that rides like a dream, v comfortable on 70+ mile rides. Arrived v quickly, will be recommending.
Fantastic bike. This is perfect for a first foray into road cycling, it is light, smooth to ride and looks incredible. It is an absolute bargain for the price and it only took Merlin a few days to assemble then post the bike. Very much recommended.
Excellent price for a well built decent spec winter hack or your first foray into road biking. I bought this to commute to work and use as a winter hack and am really impressed with it.
Best value for money. I was quite glad to find out that I was provided with front and back reflectors, a bell and very nice and decent set of pedals for free. This bike is perfect to be a first road bike, in fact the qualities of bike fulfills more than the requirements that one could have for first bike. All the parts and body and and frame are state of the art and every function fulfills its purpose one hundred percent. Its fast and riding is comfortable.
I am very pleased with the bike I ordered. The bike arrived very well packaged with ample padding on all outer edges. All that needed doing was securing the handlebars and fitting the pedals. The rest of the bike was all set up, tyres fully pumped up, brakes perfectly adjusted as well as the gears. I have been out several times on the bike and I have found it a joy to ride. It is very responsive, quick and comfortable and for the price paid I cannot fault it. I shall be using it as a winter training bike and I don't think I could have chosen a better bike for the task. Highly recommended.
Seems great so far. Light, quick acceleration and comfortable to ride. Looks very stylish too.
Having been a mountain biker for years, I thought I might get a cheap road bike, just to see if I liked it. After a lot of research, the PR7 stood out head and shoulders above the competition in the price range. So I rang Merlin to check the size and bought one. The bike took exactly 10 days to arrive, delivered by Parcelforce - which is a bit of a pain as they only give days, rather than time slots so you have to wait in for it. First impressions were great, the retro look satin black and white graphics work well. the weld quality is good. The paint looks a little thin round the joints, but too bad. In terms of weight, it's no Kate Moss, but it's no Hattie Jakes either, entirely respectable for 350 quid. Set up was OK, gears needed a bit of a fettle, as they rubbed a bit but shifting with the Claris groupset is remarkably smooth for a budget system. I am quite tall (6'3'') but the fit of the 59cm frame is really good, I have done around 100 miles on it so far and it is remarkably comfortable, although the saddle may get changed for a more ergo one. Of course there are compromises on this bike, but Merlin have put the quality parts where you need them. If you looking for a cheap road steed, there really isn't any competition - buy one.
I'm extremely happy with this; the PR7 is a great bike to ride and is value for money. It arrived promptly, was well packaged, it was also easy to track the delivery thanks to the Merlin website's link to Parcelforce online tracking. On receipt of the bike all I had to do was attach the pedals and handlebars then hit the road, and what a joy that is. One very happy customer.
Excellent product. Exceptional value for money. I was very pleased with the way the bike performed. No niggles with gears or brakes. It worked well straight out of the box! Would give it 6 stars if possible!
