I wanted something to track my indoor swimming, and at half the price of the Garmin Swim I thought I'd give the MOOV a try. I've since used it for swimming, cycling and running - here's my initial impressions.
Pros: 100% accurate lap tracking (so far!) with good detailed analysis of each lap including turn time and stroke rate. Groups your sets nicely so that you can easily analyse the data.
Cons: Can only record for 2hrs - fine for most people but worth bearing in mind. Can not record open water swimming. Does not sync with Strava which is annoying - I'm hoping that they're working on this, as many people have requested this. Does not recognise drills as far as I'm aware.
Pros: in-built coaching with voice feedback as you run. I've not explored in depth yet but seems a really great and genuinely helpful feature. Useful analysis after your run of your form and tips on how to improve your technique.
Cons: relies on phone GPS, so you'll still need your phone with you as you run.
Pros: not many I'm afraid - cycling is it's probably it's weakest point.
Cons: Users have reported inaccurate cadence readings. Reliance on phone GPS, as with running. The voice coaching is available for cycling too (not sure how useful it is), but you'll need earphones in - I personally wouldn't ride with earphones for safety reasons. The biggest downside for cycling though is the lack of auto-pause! This kinda renders it useless as far as I'm concerned. I was intending on using this for short rides to the swimming pool and maybe social rides with mates, but the lack of auto-pause means I'll be sticking with my Garmin.
Really great concept with a few flaws which wouldn't take too much to iron out! I wanted it for indoor swimming tracking, which it does well, so I'm pleased. I've given it 4/5 based on price. If they could just implement an auto-pause for cycling and integrate Strava for swimming, this would be a truly exceptional unit for the price.
Great product so far, the coaching and programs on the app are the real highlight!
