Worked perfectly to press in my bottom bracket and headset
Great tool. Made easy work of pressing in my BB30 bearings and great service and fast delivery.
I purchased this Park Tools HHP-3 headset press to install a Hope pick n mix headset to a frame with a 44mm headtube.
The tool worked fine and I did not need to buy any adaptors to fit the headset cups.
This press will work for all headset sizes, 1", 1 1/8" and 1.5".
I thought maybe the large metal washers might scratch up my headset, it did leave a few marks on it but nothing major.
The tool is quite heavy and you need to be careful when putting the threaded rod through your headtube to prevent it scratching it up. I put some grease on the washers, as the instructions say to, and on the threaded bar.
Make sure to fully press the headset cups into place. My top cup went in wonky and got stuck so I had to hit it with a hammer to level it up, use a piece of wood though to prevent damage.
I see you can buy an almost exact same tool from the On-One site for thirty quid, its made/branded by Jobsworth, I would have most likely purchased that instead if I had seen it before this one, also it was out of stock at the time.
This is a no nonsense headset press that does the job and you shouldn't need to buy any adaptors for fitting tapered headsets as this will do all 3 sizes.
But I think it is expensive, although its well worth owning if your are into building and maintaing your own bikes and will pay for its self once you have fitted a few headsets.
I would not advise to fit a headset without a press, I could not imagine fitting my headset with just a hammer and wood as it was quite a tight fit and I would not have been able to do it without this press, I would have most likely ruined my headset and frame so it makes this tool a must buy although it is a bit pricey.
Easy use, straight forward and made putting in a new headset relatively easy for someone who had never done it before.
If a bad workman blames his tools and you should use the right tool for the job, then this should definitely be in your arsenal if you plan on fitting any headsets at home. I've fitted 3 in the past 3 weeks and its paid for itself vs the LBS.
Used it once. Does the job. Great price as always from Merlin. Having the right tools always helps make a job easier having never fitted a headset before this made the job very straightforward.
Hopefully a tool for life :)
Received nice quickly, Merlin's service never disapoints.
Good product, quick delivery. What more can you ask for?
Just the job for fitting my headset bearings
