The new Drone CF3 is a more comfortable version of the Drone CF1. While the external shape of the bike is identical to the CF1, we used a less rigid carbon type to build the frame. This reduces stiffness somewhat, and slightly increases the weight, but you get a more comfortable ride
Like the CF1, the Drone CF3 is an aero race bike. This means that it has been designed with a focus on aerodynamics, without compromising on stiffness and weight.
The Drone’s morphing tube shapes just scream performance. The distinctive sleek lines and angular contours will turn many heads. The admiring looks of your friends will encourage you to push your limits for top results.
The Drone’s futuristic tube shapes have a wing profile. The tube profile has been windtunnel tested at different angles for optimum performance. Other aero frames have been optimized for a 100% head wind, but perform poorly in cross winds. Of course we all know that a 100% headwind exists in the wind tunnel only. The Drone was developed for use in the real world, the tube profiles form a complete package with great performance in both head-on and cross wind.
Particularly interesting is the lower part of the downtube which features an 'Extended Kammtail'.
A Kammtail is an aerodynamic shape that was developed by German aerodynamicist Wunibald Kamm. The design is basically a teardrop shape but with a tail that is abruptly cut off. This Kammtail shape reduces the drag of the bike to increase speed. While relatively new in the cycling world, the same kammtail principle has been used for such iconic sports cars as the Ferrari 250 GTO, Ford GT40 and Aston Martin DB6.
In the Drone frame, this concept has been extended so that both the down tube and seat tube act as a single kammtail wingshape. This allowed us to increase the size of the down tube without negatively affecting the aerodynamic performance.
The BB86 bottom bracket stiffness of the Drone is among the best in it’s class, which is particularly appealing during “out of the saddle” efforts.
Up front, the Drone's head tube is very solid, thanks to oversized lower headset bearing. The matching fork weighs in at 350 g. This full carbon fork has a carbon steerer tube, carbon dropouts and straight fork blades with an aero cross section.
The exclusive seat post and seat clamp are also aero shaped for optimal aerodynamic performance. The seatpost is compatible with classic saddle rails or with the Monolink system. Headset, compressor, seat clamp and rear dropout are anodized in color red, gold or titanium.
With the Drone, you no longer have to choose between aerodynamics, stiffness and light weight. You can have all three!
