John Pilling I recently changed my rear cassette from 11-27 to 11-36 in order to enable me to get up some of he horrendous gradients that are used on the Isle of Man Sportive's. The old short cage derailleur simply could not handle the range/chain length required for the 36T low gearing - this derailleur together with a hanger extender worked perfectly and I now run a 10 soeed 11-36T with a traditional 50-34 chain ring. Easy to fit in minutes. and a few more to get it tuned in. Merlin cycles price was fantastic and the regular delivery was on time, exactly as they stated. Great Service.

AR Shimano 105 is generally a very good balance between quality and price and this derailleur is no exception. I bought this to replace an Ultegra derailleur and the main reason was the fact that the ultegra was almost twice the price of this one. The shifting is smooth and crisp and I have not noticed any difference in performance. Merlin was the best price for this and I ordered on a Tuesday night and the item was dispatched the following morning. Can't ask for more. Thanks Merlin.
Gresswell This was a straight replacement for my old one (10,000 miles). Although I don't think my old one was really that worn, so could probably have gone quite a bit further. So overall the 105 remains a good reliable rear mech
LAVAU80 I purchased this to replace the one on my bike that had done around 20,000kms and had seized up. Cheaper to replace than to fix, bike now shifts like new.

Baggy So I`m replacing one of these on my 2011 SuperSix... Just to give you an idea how hard wearing these bad boys are, I have done over 20,000k on that mech without a single problem .. It finally gave up when I smashed the buggy in to it in the shed ... Great shifting, long lasting bit of kit.

Mr K Easy to fit and setup. Gear changes are precise and rapid. Not quite as light as Ultegra but I've calculated that if I remove 35ml of water (less than a mouthful) from my water bottle, then my bike is no heavier than if i had fitted the Ultegra version.

Mark Bulletproof 105 Rear Derailleur. 105 is probably my favorite groupset from Shimano. It's economical but well made and always works. The best for commuting, winter rides.

Ned in Newcastle I bought this to upgrade from a basic Shimano 2300 that came as standard. I considered moving up to Tiagra only bu due to the low price offered by Merlin for the 105 mech I decided to opt for it instead (34.99 paid). What can I say about the derailleur; it is much improved over what I had as standard. It shifts so much more smoothly. There are no clunks when shifting down from the bigger gears. This is to be expected but definitely worth it.I am currently running this with a 8 speed set up but will be moving to full 105 10 speed at the first opportunity.

Had no problems at all with 105 for the last few years & have just used this one during Etape Caledonia.

Mr French Solid shifting and clean looks, and at a good price from Merlin. Would prefer if Shimano used the sealed bearing pulleys.
Mr Waters It's a basic rear mech which can be easily improved with the addition of quality ball bearing jockey wheels. I own Ultegra and Dura 7800 on other bikes and this performs exactly the same but does add a few grams. Lotsa bang for the buck is what 105 is about so it rates four out of five.
