Pinarello PirateI bought these calipers after reading a Bike Radar review that awarded them best mechanical calipers on test. Bringing the brake pads to the rim on both sides equally and precisely was a critical factor and seems to be an issue for non dual-pivot brakes. The Dura Ace 9000's perform quite well in this respect and operate with reasonable precision. Generally they are of very good quality and look very nice on my Dogma F8. However in my opinion they fall slightly short of the standard that my previous calipers attained, namely Campag's dual pivot Super Record. Setting the Shimano calipers up seemed to be less forgiving. Fussy? Well when you're comparing components at that level and price point you are quite entitled to nit pick. I'd give them 8 out of 10.
DamonI decided to buy this second pair of Dura Ace 9000 brakes for a new build because they work so well. We do a lot of descending at 45 mph and this brake set slows the bike down quickly. The modulation of the brake is better than any brakes that I have used in the past. The fit and finish is spot on and the durability is excellent.
KURTShiny black and polished aluminium finish, doing job amazing, really lightweight. All titanium hardware and coming with amazing brake pads for Aluminium rims.. Better than my old 6800 BC.
Mr FullwoodQuite simply the best performing brakes I've had!
Mr SmytheInitially purchased for aesthetics and as a weight saving exercise on a new build, but I was pretty shocked at how much of an improvement the braking has been over Ultegra when paired with the 9001 DA shifters. Very confidence inspiring and dead easy for a novice home mechanic like me to set up. Going to upgrade the wife's bike too to full DA when have the cash spare. Price at Merlin's was unbeatable, and delivery was super fast. Didn't select next day delivery but got them in one working day any way.
Mr WalshGreat bit of kit, controlled, powerful braking and they look good too.
zippnutGreat braking power. The gold standard, much more powerful and better modulation than my Record 11 calipers.
HinA very noticeable upgrade, it is the closest you will get to disc brakes
finn-kelceyThese brakes are truly fabulous. I can see no reason why I should ever need to go down the disc route. They perform and look beautiful. I am using them with my Shimano Ultegra 6700 10 speed levers and they work really well. All I can say is they`re worth it!
Mr JonesSweet brakes, beautifully engineered
Mr EspinosaPros: Very good stopping power. Adjustable in multiple points. Very well made. Merlin pricing Con: Heavier than my zero gravity brakes
Mr BlenkinsopI can't believe how much better these are than Ultegra 6700. Modulation is excellent and sheer stopping power is in a different league. They look great too! Only the cost goes against them. Except of course Merlin have slashed the price.
Jan EGreat product ... Well finished, excellent quality - Braking is improved compared to my original OEM 105. Worth the cost in my view. Fast delivery and a very good price for the set. Fitted on a Giant Defy 0 - 2014 model. Works well with the original brake cables - but will upgrade them as well - so expect performance to be even better.
Mr beuganeyBest brakes I've ever used. Another Shimano winner. I now have them on 2 bikes and feel as safe as a bank!!
Mr HartzhorneUsual DA high quality product! Lightweight, great modulation. Pads are OK but I always use Swissstop so have upgraded. Highly recommend if your budget can stretch to it! Otherwise Ultegra will give you a good bang for your buck!
Mr GibbonsExcellent callipers, great looks and stopping power. Best price from merlin. Very happy
Mr SMITHSONSlick looking, modern design, powerful performance, these are brilliant.
Mr DalglieshBeautifully made calipers, not the lightest but the feel and stopping power is excellent.
Mr boalUpgraded from my existing Ultegra which I thought were pretty good until I used these- far more stopping power and better modulation. Outstanding performance, quality and looks.
Mr ShawFantastic brakes from Shimano. Previously had DA7800 and the stopping power of these better still. Just what you want when cycling in the Alps. These are simply the best brakes you can buy.
Mr MarshallPowerful with great modulation.
Mr YiuAttractive looks. Powerful yet light brake feel.
Mr WadeExcellent brakes. Pull up really well. A big improvement over 7900 and a massive difference compared with Ultegra stoppers.
Hubert ErbExcellent linear feel to braking, good finish, complete range of adjustment for pad positioning.
Mr YorkeSo much better than any other brake calipers I've owned. Light and powerful and look great.
Mr MunroReally like the new pivot design of these brakes - now both pads contact at the same angle - surely resulting in more efficient braking. And they look fantastic.
Mr ChappellThese brakes are immense. A step up over the original Shimano calliper design. The callipers are stiff low weight and mechanically sound. Very easy to change pads too.
Mr WakelingI recently upgraded my brakes to the Shimano 9000 brake calipers. I should have done it sooner as these are the best rim brakes I have used, fantastic stopping power.
San Diego CyclistIn a word, sublime. Massive stopping power with subtle nearly infinite modulation control, even on carbon rims (ENVE 3.4). Worth every extra penny as far as I am concerned. Life is short. Don't make it shorter with subpar brakes. Wow.
Mr AveryGreat upgrade, very much needed on a carbon rim, I stop up as quick on carbon as I do on alloy rim. Top class engineering.
