These are my first SPD shoes. They're really comfortable. Before having these shoes I have some concerns about the clipless shoes but now I think everyone should try these.
I have size 11UK feet and I chose EU equivalent for size 10.5. They fit really well and after 50 miles I had cool and comfortable feet.
New to road cycling and these are my first shoe's and no complaints. I take a size 9 and read the other reviews about getting a size bigger so went for the 9.5 and they fit perfect.
Wow! They are so light!
Comfy, great value shoe. Bit narrower than a Specialized shoe but sole and ventilation is good.
Very comfortable shoes, nice touches with ventilation etc, 115miles ridden so far and really pleased with comfort and durability.
I bought a pair of Shimano SPD shoes from Merlin about three years ago to use on my commuting bike, they have been excellent and despite being used every working day for two years (in all weather conditions!) they continue to serve me really well.
When I wanted a pair of SPD-SL shoes to use on my road bike I decided to trust again in Shimano. I've used these ones about ten times since and they are very comfortable and do the job I got them for, really well. They are easy to adjust on the move and the air-vents in the soles keep my feet cool. The quality seems to be very good and needless to say the price and service from Merlin was excellent (ordered one day arrived the next morning - at no extra cost). As with other reviewers I agree that Shimano shoes tend to come up slightly small so order a half size larger that you would normally go for.
Have only done about 5 rides, 200k -ish, wearing these but can say they are a vast improvement in stiffness over my 'plimsol' casual lace-up style SPD shoes from my MTB days. I ordered Euro 46 for my UK Size 10 feet and found the fit comfortable, snug without tightness when warmed up and good room in the toe box area. I used a spare set of SPD two-bolt cleats which were an easy fit. Being Road shoes they're not really suitable for walking with once the cleats are on, I understand there is an optional adaptor to add some protection to the sole and cleat area if you like.
Great price, improvements can be had in weight, ratchet fitting system etc but not at this price so very pleased with my purchase overall.
Have always been a Northwave fan but gave these a try this time round. They are decent shoes, nicely formed removable insole to help drying and foot support, very well ventilated rock solid sole, a great quality road shoe. Brilliant price and service from Merlin.
My normal shoe size varies between 43 and 44. Ordered a pair of 44's and they fit perfectly: a bit snug, but still comfortable - as they should be. Great price/quality -ratio, especially with the discount. Looks quite nice and sleek, too. I suggest using SPD-SL cleats, but if you're using SPD, remember that it's very useful to have compatible floats (have to buy separately) - easier to walk and cleats' life expectancy goes way up.
Excellent shoe, very high quality, got this to replace excisting shimano shoes, so I knew to to buy at least one to two sizes bigger than normal shoe size, would recommend you do this otherwise could be painfull, as I found out from my 1st pair of shimano shoes!!!!! Excellent fit- very stiff platform to transfer all energy to pedals
Got the shoes in the wrong size to start with but Merlin Cycles returns/refund service was excellent. These shoes represent amazing value for money and are very comfy to wear straight from the box. My MTB spd shoes needed a few hours riding to wear in but the Shimano R078 seemed to be super comfy and didn't create any rub points after adjusting the straps. They look far more expensive being a sleek black but could do with a ratchet strap to make them even better, they also have a great stiff sole. Superb first buy SPD shoe
My first SPD SL shoes after years of using MTB shoes. Comfortable, stiff soles and seem very well made.
