Pete BerrymanI needed a set of tubeless wheels for cyclocross racing and these fitted the bill & excellent advice from the Merlin team before buying these wheels. Wheels themselves work really well, spinning up and holding speed much easier than the old Shimano RS10s.
Mr GredzinskiI bought these as an upgrade to Shimano R501 which I rate highly. The rims are certainly lighter and with less spokes and bladed ones at that, they have noticeably less heft. The free wheel is only slightly louder than the 501's but thankfully has not the irritating buzz of some other wheels which I avoid. I removed the tubeless valve arrangement so I could use Schwalbe Xtra light tubes and Ultremo folding tyres which are super light. Since the rim has a shallower internal profile some tyres will be hard to fit. I'm no wrestler but I managed to get them on with my fingers. The tubes at first seem rather too big for the wheels but by pumping carefully and checking for twists they went on fine and have stayed up. I have not even test ridden the wheels yet but I know they are going to be great as they are not much heavier than the RS81 models I also have. Since I dont susbsribe to the aero rim guff, the fact that these are pretty shallow finds favour with me. Good value for sure.
Mr RichardsVery good wheels for the money. Typical Shimano quality, rigid, smooth, good bearings and pretty light.
Mr MaquezFor the price, you'll never beat it! I've upgraded from the RS-11's and let me tell you...these wheels are nice! You can actually feel the difference! Also happy that if I wanted to try tubeless, I can!
Mr SwanReplaced a 7 year old set of Bontrager Race wheels, which were fitted to a Trek Madone, with these wheels. The Shimano quality is noticeable and they are great to ride and also look pretty good. No problems fitting Continental 23mm Gatorskins to them. Came in very sturdy packaging and were delivered next day on standard delivery. First class price and product
Mr YoungExtremely good value. Replacing Ultegra wheels that had reached the end of useful life - moved cogs, added tires and rode... almost no derailleur adjustment required. These feel stiff and lively, just like the old ones once did!
Climbs like CavCannot fault these wheels - compatible with my 8 speed cassette and run really smoothly. The option to run tubeless is a real bonus, although they take clinchers just fine. All in all, a sound option for an upgrade from a standard entry level wheelset and absolutely worth the money. Can't wait for the weather to improve so I can really rack up the miles.
