Mr. Brix Smooth in shifting without noise
Christopher I bought this derailleur to customize the drivetrain on my road bike. I needed the increased cage length and capacity, having swapped from a 30tooth small ring on the triple crank, and from changing the stock 12-25 cassette to an 11-34. This is an awesome derailleur for the price. Very lightweight, flawless fit and finish. I am so glad that Shimano designed 9 speed mountain and road parts to work together. It indexes perfectly. Awesome derailleur for custom drivetrain applications. The only thing I found odd is that my old tiagra derailleur had a barrel adjuster on it, and this derailleur doesnt seem to work with a barrel adjuster (not threaded for one). Did not have a negative effect though, I had adjustment at the downtube boss. Overall I highly reccomend.
Veteran Rider Smooth shifting once again on an old bike
Stuart Excellent derailleur, well made and easy to set up. It's not the cheapest option for replacing a worn out rear mech but the quality is so much better than recent lower level Shimano kit. Be aware that there is no cable adjuster on the mech so you need one in your shifter or by adding one like the BBB BCB-96 at the mech if you are using road bike shifters. The 9 speed label isn't really accurate. As long as the rear shifter cable pull, mech shift ratio and sprocket spacing are compatible , the rear mech will work across a range of "speeds". I've got three of these now, one on a bike with 1996 8 speed shifters, one with 2000 9 speed XT shifters and one on a bike with with 2017 10 speed Dura Ace bar end shifters. All of these bikes are triples and the shifting is perfect on all of them. The capacity of the long cage SGS version allows for a great range of gearing. Great bit of kit.
Myron Bought RD XTM772 to increase the gear range of my Dura-Ace 7800 road bike. This derailleur works faultlessly with this set up. Cannot fault it. I am very pleased with its quality and performance, it has given me a practical way of having low climbing gear ratios without resorting to all new groupset. Very highly recommend it.
A Appleton Reliable and precise performance
Mr Durrant Reliable XT performance at a much cheaper price than XTR. Takes about five minutes to install and adjust and then goes for years without more than the occasional cleaning.
