Rob is in charge of E-Commerce here at Merlin however, he also has a real love for riding his Santa Cruz Megatower. But what makes riding the thing that it is for Rob and where did it all begin? From going on his first proper MTB ride in the Lakes to spending his stag do in Whistler, we sat down with him to find out.
What got you into riding?

When I was around 10 years old, I rode motorcross, but unfortunately, the bike was stolen. I’d always knocked around on bikes when I was younger but I can remember my uncle asking if we wanted to borrow a proper moutain bike (GT Zaskar) and have a ride in the Lakes. I went and loved it ever since. R.I.P Uncle Mark.
Favourite bike you’ve had?

My favourite bike would have to be my current bike, a Santa Cruz Megatower. It’s just super versatile; it pedals well and goes down even better. It also looks cool when I go on a ride with my kids.

Best place you’ve ridden?
I was a lucky boy – in 2019 I went on my stag do to Whistler. I have a couple of friends who live out there and they surprised me with two weeks in MTB heaven.
What’s the toughest ride you’ve been on?
The toughest ride I can think of was the Golfie at Innerleithen. It was December and we had a full day lapping the trails. Late in the afternoon, though, the weather turned quickly and we were all running low on energy. We got so cold and wet, and it didn’t feel like a very good place to be haha. I was happy to see the cafe and the log fire afterwards.
Your biggest achievement on the bike?

My biggest achievement must be winning a northwest regional downhill race. I entered with a couple of mates just for fun to race against them. Ended up winning.
