Pretty much the same as the old RS20 that I use as general. purpose/winter wheels. The RS21 has subtler graphics and will accept 11 speed cassettes (as well as 10 speed if you use the spacer provided). Best wheels in this price range in my opinion. The hub bearings have excellent seals and if cleaned, greased & adjusted once a year will last forever. The wheels are fairly light and riigid - regular use over loads of cattle grids testifies they are robust.
Great budget wheels at an amazing price. They are typically well made as you would expect from Shimano using their tried and tested cup & cone bearings for amazing durability. The bladed spokes are great too making a lovely whistle at speed! They aren't particularly light at approximately 1800g but they are very sturdy so the extra grams don't bother me. If you are after some wheels to speed up your ride look elsewhere but if you want some smooth rolling, stiff, durable wheels at the cheapest price on the web give Merlin a shout!
No problems as yet, staying true, good wheel for winter riding
I have been using a sub 1500g lightweight during the season and bought these for winter training/commuting, and I have ridden a few hundred miles over pothole ridden roads and they seem to be built like a tank. Still true like a boss.
For the price the weight is reasonable. The hubs are smooth and the rear free hub is quiet (not silent).
The understated aesthetics are also refreshing.
It gives a smooth supple ride, which I like, as more rigid sets can deliver a fair beating to your nether regions.
You will have a hard time finding a better quality wheel set for the price, especially at Merlin prices, and I think I will be using these for everything but racing.
Great wheels for the price, usual Shimano quality, a real step up from the lower priced wheels. Straight pull spokes, low spoke count, fairly stiff. Super smooth bearings, ultra quiet freewheel. Very understated graphics. Highly recommended and a bit of a bargain at the moment.
Nice wheels, great value. Very smooth rolling. Best bit is the blade spokes, nice sound at speed.
Wheels feel light and fast, obviously inheriting some genes from the Dura Ace wheels (I have C24's). Using with a 105 10 speed groupset, and all seems fine.
I put a lot of research in to buying these wheels. Stu Bowers from Cyclist magazine settled it for me when they were standard on a Senza Giulia Custom and he rated them highly. For the money, especially Merlin prices, you will struggle to find a better wheelset. Pick up much better than my stock wheels, and if like me you want them "decals off", they look all kinds of awesome.
Having ridden them a few hundred miles I can say their far superior to my stock wheels. Their considerably lighter, roll better and are stiffer than my previous wheels which I thought had a disconcerting amount of flex in them. The ride feels a lot different (better) their obviously a lot more energy efficient. With these on I can ride a lot quicker on the flats and on the hills. They also look nice. My previous wheels were 32 spoke rigida flyer rims on formula hubs.
Great set of wheels for the price.
Light and fast. Set is 400g lighter than the RS10s they replaced. Spokes are way more aero too. Usual excellent service and best price from Merlin.
A great pair of wheels from Shimano as I find all their wheel products. They are great value for money and with the metal freehub less prone to wear which I have experienced with none metal freehubs from other manufacturers.
They are a great training or racing wheel remaining true after some inadvertant pothole abuse.
