Brand Focus – Blackburn

Almost 50 years since Blackburn started producing cycling products, they have developed their range hugely. Jim Blackburn started off with the Expedition EX-1 rear rack, a product which still sells well today. In the period of time since, Blackburn have developed more racks and also an enviable range including, Lights, Pumps, Bags and Tools.

Racks

The Blackburn Expedition rack is where it all started for the company. The Expedition rack now comes in a disc brake compatible design as well as the original, which is suitable for regular / quick release skewers. Produced from 9mm aircraft grade aluminium for rigidity and durability, despite only weighing in at 535 grams, this rack is designed to go the distance.The three strutt design spreads the load evenly across the rack, the maximum load is 18 Kilograms.

Lights

Blackburn produce an extensive range of bike lights, ideal for all types of riding. The Blackburn DayBlazer range is simple, affordable and reliable – in-demand attributes for commuters. The range features USB charging, innovative ‘Blitz’ daytime running setting and versatile silicone fittings. The range topping DayBlazer 1500 has a maximum 1500 watt power front light and a wide choice of running options, the maximum runtime of 15 hours is at 120 lumens.

Bags

Blackburn manufacture a wide range of bike bags, from the small capacity Grid seat bags to the Outpost range designed for bikepacking and long trips. All Blackburn bags share the same high quality construction and practical design features. Multi Tools

As with Blackburns other products, their Multi Tools are practical and easy to use tools. No flashy gimmicks, just what you need to get the job done. The Grid 13, for example, includes all the tools you would expect, and a couple of extras. The pad spreader tool to open out disc brake pads cleverly doubles as a bottle opener. The bits are made from aircraft grade 6150 chrome vanadium which is more resistant to wear and corrosion compared to other grades of steel, the body / handle are made from die cast aluminium.

Pumps

Small yet powerful pumps also feature in Blackburn’s range of products. The AirStik 2Stage mini pump, for example, features the ability to pump high volume for big tyres and high pressure for skinny tyres. This durable aluminium pump weighs in at only 85 grams. It has a maximum rating of 160 PSI / 11 Bar. It is suitable for Presta valves only and comes with a handy frame mount.
