Buyer’s Guide: Why You Need Three Road Bikes

Aero vs Endurance vs Lightweight. Road bikes come in a number of different shapes, sizes and prices. But what do these options actually mean when it comes to selecting the right bike for you?

Aero

This type of bike is designed with the purpose of going as fast as possible. Aerobikes feature agressive geometry, anti-drag features that while optimising speed can also have the potential to make the bike less comfortable for some riders. That said, should you want the most out of a bike for fast sections, this is definitely the one to go for. Not to mention its all-round racey look that makes it hard to ignore when looking for your next bike.

Noah Fast 3.0

The Noah Fast 3.0 is one our favourite here at Merlin for its aero capabilities. As with any aero-bike, it not only looks the part, but performs to the standard set by the Uno-X Mobility team. Available as one of our custom builds, this one is sure not to disappoint.

Endurance

Endurance is the real do-it-all bike. These bikes offer the best of both the endurance and the lightweight worlds, all while offering that little bit more comfort required for riders to get the most out of their ride. If there’s anything to dislike about this style of bike, it’s that there are no particular areas in which it excels. But surely this bike has its place when the ride features a variety of sections?

Orro Gold STC

The Orro Gold STC boasts that classic road look all while featuring the best of what any competitive endurance bike has to offer. Could this be the bike that does it all?

Lightweight

A little pricier than your average endurance bike, a lightweight bike promises unmatched climbing efficiency. This is achieved through a shorter and stiffer frame, paired with a steeper head tube angle and shorter wheelbase allowing for efficient power transfer. This contributes to an overall aggressive riding position meaning the rider can minimise drag throughout climbs. This style of bike might be the answer for those mountainous roads you’ve always wanted to ride.

Felt FR FRD

The Felt FR FRD is our top pick for any ride that features steep sections. Here, Felt have maintained a focus on efficiency throughout this climbing weapon, even down to its asymmetrical chainstays. With this one, you can be reassured that your bike is working equally as hard as you, no matter the gradient.
