Nice shoe which looks even better in the flesh! Certainly buy one size up - I'm a size 43 but ordered 44. Also a narrowish fit. Used twice now in coldish weather with woolie boolies and my feet were warm with plenty of "toe wriggle" An understated yet stylish budget shoe which typifies Shimano value for money.
I went from being someone who just couldn't understand why people loved their clip-on shoes, to someone who swears by it.. Need I say any more. My primary use-case was to ensure firm positioning on the pedals, which wasn't possible with simple platform pedals. I realised I was wasting a lot of energy and concentration trying to find the right spot on my older platform pedals. These shoes ensure your feet are always positioned at the right place on the pedal all the time.. Now I have to get more practise to get proper use of the upward stroke.
Great shoes! As with most people check the odd Shimano sizing, I'm normally a 44 but went for the 46 Wide and they're a perfect fit with a pair of Seal Skinz socks. Will definately buy another pair especially at Merlin's prices :)
Usually take a 45/46 so got the 47 and fits well, felt a bit narrow to start but the shoe spread slightly once pedaling. Slightly softer rubber on the sole than cheaper shoes gives good traction when hiking. Very happy using them on my road bike too, combination of ratchet and Velcro straps makes for very secure fit. Would definitely recommend these shoes.
As a first MTB shoe I was really impressed, as with a lot of other first timers I was unsure as to what size I should order. My Nike trainer size is 9.5 and my initial purchase was a 44, with these my toes were just touching the end of the shoe. In the end I order a 45 and they are fine.
They are really comfy and solid and a bargain at that price. I have worn these on three occasion with the longest ride being 3 hours. Some others have made comments about the weight, this would be an issue maybe if you were only competing and were reducing weight in every way. But, when I ride I am fully kitted out, rain gear, back pack, water, tools, lights etc. Highly recommended.
I'm always wary of buying shoes online, especially due to having very wide feet, but this time I got lucky. The shoes fitted superb and although they have not been given the test of time, They do seem very well put together and highly recommend them to other customers with wider feet.
Beautifully made shoes that do just what they say on the box. I chose these shoes because they were the cheapest Shimano shoes I could find that met my two requirements: Majority of them was black
Had a ratchet strap feature. And boy did it pay off, I love these shoes and will never consider riding platform pedals again due to how comfy they are when on & off the pedals, I had heard a lot of comments about how "stiff soled cycling specific shoes are difficult to walk in" etc. but I have found that they are no more difficult to walk in than any other shoe, yes they do have slightly less grip, but they're not made to be hiking shoes!
I'm UK size 14 and have wide feet, the Shimano Size 50 Wide fit me perfectly.
Excellent quality as you'd expect from Shimano. Very comfortable even on longer rides (XC & trails).
I had to exchange and go up to a 47 wide from a 46, which Merlin did with no fuss. The shoes are good quality, comfortable and in my opinion look nice. I definately recommend them, I use them for my daily 16 mile commute on my road bike.
I'm a 9 or 9.5 depending on the brand of shoe, 44 is a perfect fit for me. I know that many people worry about Shimano sizing but I reckon if you're a 44 in your every day shoes just buy 44 and don't worry. Check out the Shimano size guide here: http://shoesize.madison.co.uk/ And buy with confidence. Great price with Merlin, usual quick delivery.
Nice supportive shoe, I am a female rider and they are not too bulky in size.
A great pair of shoes well priced and comfortable whilst still being stiff. The buckle configuration allows for a repeatable fit that should not wear out like velcro straps.
The fastening on these shoes are a great idea. Keeps the shoes nice and tight. The quality is excellent. I am a size 9, ordered a size 45 which is a perfect fit.
Having had Shimano shoes before I ordered the 44 and it fits perfectly.
Only gripe may be the rubber sole is a bit hard which doesn't give good grip on wet rock/roots, but then not many do if you want them to last longer than a year.
I have only been wearing these shoes for a relatively short time but they have been comfortable from day one and on a recent 4 hour charity ride they made the journey a very pleasant one. I am a size 9 in a normal shoe and having previously worn Shimano flat soled MTB shoes, I ordered size 44 which are the perfect fit for me. The tread is deep enough to be comfortable to walk on various terrains including the rock garden trail I rode just the other day. I can't vouch for long term durability but they are a well manufactured shoe and look more than capable of being able to take a few knocks without too much trouble.
I generally wear an EU46 and have wider than normal feet. I ordered the EU47 Wide. My toes 'just' touch the front but nothing that will annoy me and the wide fit is great. A thick sock will make them just a bit more snug.
I am yet to try them out but they feel suitably stiff and look the part.
Great shoes! fit is great on me! I usually stuggle to find the right size 44 too small 45 too big but the 45 is great for me.
The rachet buckle is nice and secure and it is easy to get the right tension, also very easy to opperate with gloves on too. Good air flow to keep feet cool, if its cold and wet I have overshoes anyway so thats great for me.
I was plesantly surprised at how good they are off the bike when scrabbling up sections you cant ride. As always really quick delivery from merlin cycles and good price too!
Due to Shimano sizing not being in line with regular sizing I had my feet measured at a shoe store to make sure I know exactly what my size is (43) and tried on some pairs of Shimano SPD shoes which didn't help much so I opted for 45 in these and they fit great.
This is my first pair of SPD shoes so I can't judge these by comparison but I have found them to be ideal for what I want. I use them for touring during which I visit quite a lot of places like churches, galleries, visitor centres etc. I could walk around such places in these shoes quite easily although the sole was stiffer than any other footwear I have ever owned, whch no doubt contributes to greater power when riding.
I was comfortable wearing them all day, wore them for off-road cycling as well as road, and one day of my tour was wet and drizzling for several hours, during which time my feet remained completely dry. I imagine they would get wet in heavier rain though.
The tour was cut short after a bad fall on tamac which bent my handlebars, scraped the skin off my right hip, hands, forearm, elbow and shoulder, and cracked my ribs. My shirt was torn and my helmet will need replacing, but the shoes are ok! The ratchet is visibly scraped but not damaged in any way. Great.
Oh, they were delivered quickly too and the price was the best I could find anywhere.
First foray into SPDs and I'm delighted with these and, as always, the service from Merlin. It may seem obvious but it might help to know that these don't come with cleats but if you buy new pedals (I went for Shimano M530s) they come in the pedal box. Also, I ordered 49 wide for my UK13 feet and they're a perfect fit. Spend some time Googling before you fit the cleats as there are a few tricks to getting the right position so you don't destroy your knees. Well designed product at a great price, welcome to the world of efficient pedalling :-)
Great shoes. Have struggled to find a comfortable shoe for longer rides. Highly recommend the wide fit of these shoes. Absolutely flawless service by Merlin Cycles with speedy and precise delivery.
Replacing previous shoe with exactly the same !
Hard wearing, comfortable.
Good quality, comfortable The ratchet mechanism on the top strap is excellent. Keeps the shoe tight on long rides. Very much worth the "extra" cost for the velcro, or even lace up versions. The sole is fairly still to ensure you can put the power down quickly, but not so stiff that you look like a roady/penguin when walking in to the pub! Very much recommend this shoe. And Merlin prices (and delivery speed) are hard to beat! I'm a UK size 9. The Shimano 44 fits perfectly.
Wide fitting is comfy for me (ordered one size bigger than my usual), uppers are well designed and seem durable, and soles are grippy rubber. Not excessively stiff - what I want for Three Peaks Cyclocross.
Nice shoe, good quality. Fit is always a worry with shimano, I ordered a 50, fits like a Northwave 48, maybe even a little narrower and I ordered the 'wide' version. My feet are fairly wide, definitely size up even in the wide version.
Excellent quality MTB shoes, chose the wide and one size up, and they fit perfectly. A great purchase, excellent value, perfectly packed and rapidly delivered by Merlin.
Very happy customer here.
Great shoes, very soft in the ankle area which is the reason why I was replacing my cheap MTB shoes.
I also own another two pairs of Shimano road shoes, their MTB range appears to be the same great quality.
Take note, these don't have the screw hole for toe pegs, but the tread is plenty aggressive for most riders.
Very comfortable shoes, nice and flexible upper that fits really well, I have very slightly wider than normal feet and use the Shimano Wide fitting SPD-SL shoes on my road bike, so was a bit worried with these not being wide fit, but they are fine, really comfortable. They are a lot more comfortable than my Shimano road shoes, that are essentially the same design.
Great shoe, would highly recommend, nice and durable, should last a long time.
This is the second pair ot MO88's I've purchased, this alone says a lot about my thoughts on this shoe. They are very comfortable and offer above average stiffness which is ideal for all but CAT 1 or very serious CAT 2 riders. My last pair did fall apart after 12 months heavy use, the rubber sole came away from the upper. If my new pair last 2-3 years I would give them 5 stars as they are an excelent recreational and lower catergory race shoe.
Ordered 2 sizes larger than standard shoe size as one size bigger was tight (my AM45 spd's are only 1 size bigger!) Overall great shoe; light & stiff enough without being uncomfortable.
Great shoes for the price, nothing special but does the job very well, bought a size 10 and a bit snug but good and easy to set up
Bought size I would normally go up to for a winter boot and also in a wide fit. I am a UK 9 (43) in just about every shoe or trainer but have fairly broad feet and have struggled with cycling shoes being either too tight or too long. Got 44 wide and they are a great fit even with thinner summer socks (I'd say think a generous 9 UK) . Looked at more expensive shoes but couldn't fault these especially as they are so comfortable, with a good solid ratchet and also pretty good venting for the warmer months.
Sole is rugged and nice and deep. Perfect for Speedplay or Crank Brothers cleats as there is a good wide recess space. Build quality appears to be robust with reinforcement in the key areas. However, the shoe is nice and light for one at this price point. Initial reaction on purchase is "very pleased" especially at this price. Watch and double check on sizing though as it expensive to return with the new Royal Mail prices!!
Perfect fit for my wide feet. Nice and stiff. Look good too
Sizing on these is way off. I would recommend trying on before ordering. Im a uk9.5-10 and had to buy size 46. Also fairly narrow so if you've got wide feet go for wide fitting. Comfy and great for commute can wander round in them with sliding all over the shop
Very comfy, a good fit and very easy to engage/disengage with multi release shimano cleats (I've only ever used Specialized spd shoes before so I was "worried" that I'd have a comedy fall. Nope no probs. Remember to go a size up. I'm a size 10 and I needed a 46wide hence why I only give these 4/5 stars.
These are exactly as described, which is a great start
These are my first pair of clipless shoes, and after a tricky start of not reading instruction, I found them easy to put the cleat in
I have big feet- sort of- but wide and deep, which means its tricky to buy shoes. After a quick call I was advised to buy wide fitting shimano's
What can I say - really comfortable, both on and off the bike, they're not really designed for walking miles in but they are great for mooching about in and putting foot down on the road (when I'm not falling over!)
All in all a comfy shoe, with great service from merlin. Happy days
Great shoes! I went with the wide fit and they are so comfortable. They look great and feel great. Highly recommend them. Quick service from Merlin too, arrived in Australia in 9 days.
I usually wear a size 42 but went for a 43 which fit perfectly.
The shoes have a stiff sole, which is great, as you can pedal hard with no flex.
Overall these are a great summer shoes.
Shoe is very very comfortable as in the past shoes were painfully narrow, when walking also comfortable as shoe keeps your foot flat & not raised at the toes. The sole is flexible/grippy & soft where it is in contact with the ground.
Ordered one size bigger the I usually wear, fit bang on. Comfy and easy to get on/off, grip well. Usual 1st class service from Merlin.
I liked much the product. Very good
Very good shoe well made. The wider fitting made for a very comfortable fit. Price and delivery, both excellent from Merlin, defo 5 stars.
Great shoes feel really comfy although I had to go for a bigger size than I normally would. Wide fitting really suited my feet. The sole feels really stiff so you feel like your getting most of the power to the pedals. Good to walk in as well.
Nice shoe, really pleased with them.
I found them a bit of a tighter (Narrower) fit than my other Shimano shoes in the same size.
Good service as per usual.
Wide version perfect fit for me. Very comfortable.
My new slippers!!! Upgreaded from an older pair of Shimano`s that had always felt small in the toe box. I`m an 8 and suffer with the onset of bunnions so having read several reviews went for a 43Wide. I can`t believe how much more comfortable they are and how much more I`m enjoying my rides. A great pair of shoes!
Having put up with my old Diadora mtb shoes for years being too long and narrow the new Shimano shoes are superb so comfy & the wide fit is perfect can wear my sealskin socks no problem. Will wear them road cycling as well because you can crank them down real firm with the rachet to stop heel lift. Good price as well. Get size up from what you normally have
Shoes are of reasonable quality materials for the price and are very light and comfortable. Due to previous experience with small bike shoes I ordered 45 wide fit although I wear a UK size 9 shoe normally (which is supposedly a 43) and this is a good fit. Overall very satisfied although some colour options would be even better. Thanks Merlin
Perfect it, as long as you remember that Shimano '9' is 44 - not 43 as every other shoe I own!!
Nice cosy ratchet gizmo.
Quality comfortable shoes for a great price.
These are absolutely superb shoes. Stiff for excellent power transfer but very comfortable to walk. I commute 15 miles to work and don't feel the need to change shoes at all. Just keep them on. The cleats don't hit the ground (only on never ground it makes a bit of grinding noise).
The micro adjust buckle is very helpful as I loosen it for walking and then tighten for cycling.
I cycle everywhere with these shoes. Look very nice also.
Good quality shoes delivered on time. The sizing is slightly smaller than my previous shoes so this is something to watch, you may want a size bigger than previously bought.
Good quality shoe from shimano - very stiff sole for good power transfer and good grippy sole. quick ratchet strap means very good tight fit whilst not being uncomfortable. two velcro straps are okay, paddiing round the ankle is good.
MAKE SURE YOU CHECK SHIMANOS SIZE GUIDE BEFORE YOU ORDER. they don't seem to be very good at converting uk sizes to european sizes - i am size 8 UK, everyone else in the world seems to think that this converts to 42EU, but shimano think that it's a 43. - found that out the hard way, and ordered a 7.5 by accident (42EU). apart from that you won't be dissapointed.
First time shopped at merlincycles, excellent shoes and great service.
