Road Bike Gear Levers

Road STI & Ergo Levers offer combined braking and gear change. Shimano’s system is called STI, Campagnolo’s is Ergo and Sram’s is called Double Tap. Each system involves a different method of actuating the shift. Mechanical and electronic versions are available from all three manufacturers. Time trial and triathlon bikes require a different type of lever which is fitted in the end of the aero bar. While the first combined brake & gear road levers were 8 speed, this has gradually increased over time and now Shimano, Campagnolo and Sram all offer 11 speed shifting as the new standard.
