Carbon Frame and Fork
The X2.0 Carbon is our first full carbon fibre cyclocross bike. It’s also our first cyclocross bike to have a tapered head tube. Plugged into that head tube is a carbon fork with carbon steerer and oversize fork legs that eliminate front brake chatter. This is not a fragile feeling carbon bike. It’s stiff and reliable and more than capable for the rigours of racing and UK trail bashing. We’ve used 24-ton carbon as it has greater impact resistance and is less brittle than other slightly lighter carbons such as 60-ton.
The back end matches the feel of the front end perfectly – they’re direct and responsive. There’s loads of tyre clearance in the frame and fork if you want to run fatter tyres for added comfort as and when. If you are out adventuring then there’s provision for holding two water bottles in the front triangle.
If you’re on the race course then the internal cable routing and ergonomically shaped down tube and top tube make the X2.0 Carbon very easy to grab and shoulder.
This top end build features Spyre C mechanical disc brakes from TRP and a fantastic wheelset in the guise of a pair of Fulcrum Racing Sport DB CX wheels.

Mr PowellExcellent frame and fork (COUGH: It's a 2014 Ridley X-Fire with a different paint job. Not just "similar", it actually is one, right down to the same grade of carbon fibre used and even the finishing kit!). Finishing kit is just OK; bit heavy, but does the job (ditch the sofa like saddle ASAP though). Oh and get some decent wheels on it as the Fulcrums might be strong but their weight really does blunt the ride quality. Set of lightweight tubulars turn this thing from a fairly average bike into a genuine race worthy machine (again, Ridley used to sell it as their top flight race model). Handling is impeccable when racing. Stiffness is great for power transfer (though the FSA cranks do flex more than a Shimano alternative would). The TRP brakes are so-so, nowhere near as good as hydraulics, on a par with well set up cantis in the dry but a little better in the wet - fine for racing, anyway. 105 drivechain is really, really good - I'd be hard pressed to notice the difference in shifting between it and Ultegra if I'm being honest (and it's a lot cheaper to replace if you manage to break something!). At it's current price it's a bit of a bargain, just make sure you budget for better wheels to get the most out of it.
Mr MumfordThis bike is brilliant. Having recently moved to this type of bike from a FRS Marin, the whole business of getting to areas for a bit of off roading is much quicker. Obviously requires more concentration when on rough ground but certainly gives me the mix of road riding and offroad exploring I am now enjoying. Tyres that came with the bike a nobblier than I expected.
US Minnesota Gravel GrinderGreat bike and components for the money - One piece of housing from the shifter all the way back to the rear derailleur. Had to replace the rear derailleur cable with a better one in order to get proper shifting at colder temperatures under 45 degrees fahrenheit. Standover height is VERY high for the bike's top tube size. Just a personal preference - replaced the tires with 700X35, which is the largest the frame will support and have enough clearance. Would be nice to fit 38s or 40s for US rural gravel riding. Had to pay $152 import tax into the US, but still by far a great bike for the money. Nice wheels, frame , and brakes. I think these wheels would also work on a through axle frame with the correct adapters. Wheels roll fast and smooth. The OEM bars, stem, seatpost, and saddle are decent quality for the price point, although I prefer a little bit thicker handlebars tubing across the top. Bar tape is the low cost OEM stuff. The paint job on this frame is very good. Shipping was very fast. Less than one week to the US, which no damage. I called Merlin for a questions and they answered the phone right away and were able to help me with the 1st person that answered the phone - no waiting.

Mr EdwardsDone 200km on it now and I'm very pleased. A smooth and comfortable ride. Looking forward to some off road marathons when the surrounding area resembles less like a bog. Excellent value for money.
