Merlin FF1 105 Mix Road Bike, 11 speed 5800 drivechain

The FF1 is an excellent step up from an entry level road bike. It has the performance to match its elegant and modern appearance.

The triple butted frame and carbon fork give the FF1 a light, swift feel but without the harshness often found on bikes at this level. The clean classic lines of the frame show off the FF1's pared-down gimmick-free appeal.

The FF1 can turn its hand to pretty much anything. It’s an adaptable bike with immense upgrade potential – morph it into a reliable tough-nut training bike or change it into a race-worthy steed. Or just keep it as a true all-rounder. It’s up to you.

This Shimano 105 equipped FF1 offers slick 11 speed gearing with a wide range of ratios. The Fulcrum Racing 7 LG Wide wheelset is a real highlight on this bike. The 4ZA finishing kit are all dependable units that really sit well on this bike in terms of form as well as function.

I am very happy with this bike. A noticeable step up from my hybrid in terms of the specification - which translates into greater speed on the road!
Bike was easy to assemble and start riding. Perfect for first road bike, and getting into riding.
Fast, light and comfortable aluminium frame road bike! Thanks!
Magnificent object with few superb gems. First of all I would clarify that this is my first road bike after several years and my target was a bike that could give me good feeling, responsiveness and reliability. And I personally prefer a good and solid aluminium frame than cheap carbon frame (Carbon fibre frames have to be handmade and low price could generally indicate low quality. For the same price, aluminium could be better and not necessarily much heavier than carbon). Starting with the packaging, the delivery pack was excellent, the bike was basically assembled and unscratched (positively surprised that tires were already correctly pumped). After quick check of cabling and brakes I took if for a 5 mins ride to check gears indexing and reactions and it worked perfectly. The bike is really light, frame looks great even if a bit more attention on welding could be paid. It is the good mixing between carbon fibre (fork - that is superb) with aluminium handlebar that gives a great feeling. Not too rigid but not smooth. Really good for beginners that could be annoyed by excessive vibrations. Fulcrum wheels are a kind of jewel at this price and I personally think that install 25mm tires it's a good feature. There is nothing really better that Continental Ultra Sport II at this price in the market. The Shimano mix 105 groupset is great at this price, if you don`t switch gear while you are sprinting, its more than enough. Seatpost and handlebar from Forza are really cool. Also seat is good, but I think I`ll change it (just personal opinion though). Service: Merlin service is great and quick! I asked for left hand front brake and they managed to make it easily. Really thanks, fortunately GB is one of the few remaining countries where people drive on the wrong side of the street ;) . Last thing, maybe include a branded multi-tool and/or back light and/or flat pedals would be helpful, especially for beginners.
Really smooth shifters and ride. I'm surprised that it exists at this price range.
Well packaged for delivery. Fitted the seat post and bars and bike was good to go. Gear indexing set up was spot on. Great service and a great bike for the price from Merlin.
My first experience of a road bike and can't fault it. Smooth gears, smooth ride and plain simple looking design. The spec of the FF1 is far beyond anything else in this price range. Highly recommended.
I bought this as my first road bike. I shopped around a bit but did not find a better deal as far as spec for the money. The groupset on a lot of the bigger name brands (like Giant or Specialized) did not seem to be as high, and I would rather have mixed 105 than no 105. Also for the price point the wheel set is pretty good too. Out of the box the bike was about 90% assembled. All that I had to do was put the handle bars, seat, and front wheel on. I expected to have to tune the bike as well but it was completely ready to go after the minor assembly. It was tough to really tell online but it is an awesome looking bike and tough to tell unless your looking at it in person. I have put a few hundred miles on the bike and it rides like a dream. I am 6' 1" and went with the large sized frame and find it pretty comfortable. Make sure that if you are ordering outside of the UK that you email/call Merlin to make sure your brakes come set up correctly. I live in the US and thought my rear brake was broken after realizing the brakes were set up for riding in the UK. The rear brake is on the left and the front brake is on the right. Not the end of the world but I would have expected an international retailer to set the bikes up for the countries they are going to.
Starting with the packaging, the delivery parcel was excellent, the bike was almost assembled and yet perfectly safe and unscratched with not-excessive protective stuff. The bike is really light, with a good quality frame especially the fork which is a mix of carbon fiber with aluminium steerer. The groupset is superb for the bike price and the remaining 4ZA components (seat, seatpost, handlebar, etc, are nice). The size is a bit big for me, it would be better to have a smaller frame size available. The wheels are also very good. It is a very reliable cycle, highly recommendable.
Was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the bike and components, looks & performs great.
Fantastic price/quality ratio! Definitely would recommend to any potential customer! ;)
This is genuinely a fantastic bike for the money. I bought it as a winter training bike to replace an old Giant Defy and the difference is spectacular. The 11 speed 105 group set is excellent at this price and the wheels are the same as on my Colnago CLX2 which cost 5 times the price. Its slightly heavier than a full carbon bike of course but frankly I can barely tell the difference between this and the much more expensive Colnago (admittedly I'm a competent sportive rider, not a racer). Its a fairly smooth bike to ride due to the carbon forks I presume. Don't expect the most beautiful finish - the welding is in places an eyesore but thats about all I can find fault with. The service from Merlin was quick and efficient.
Great bike, well made, good quality, great to ride, would recommend this bile to anyone
