The Merlin Malt-G1X is our top of the range bike in the ever-expanding line of Merlin Malt-G gravel bikes. Following hot on the heels of our original Malt-G the Malt-G1X features a number of updates to the frame and forks; constructed from lightweight triple-butted 6061 aluminium it is paired with a light, full-carbon fork making the G1X the lightest and most agile frameset in the Malt-G range; the addition of a simple, efficient and lightweight Sram Apex 1 groupset with hydraulic disc brakes makes this our best gravel bike yet!
The Merlin Malt-G1X can handle a wide variety of terrain including gravel tracks and green lanes allowing you to combine sections of road with more challenging segments meaning more of your adventures can start at your front door. The Malt-G1X has a full complement of mounts the bike is ready to sport mudguards and even a rear pannier – so if you want to head off on a touring adventure or simply commute to work you can, no problem.
The Merlin Malt-G1X gravel bike frameset features a new lightweight triple-butted 6061 Aluminium frame with thru-axles front and rear to ensure that wheels are kept securely in place, disc brakes are always perfectly aligned and steering precision is further enhanced thanks to the wheel hub and fork essentially becoming one unit. The Malt-G1X frame includes flat-mounts for disc brakes and internal cable routing for brake and gear cables giving a cleaner, less cluttered look to the bike as well as enhanced protection from grit and grime meaning your bike will run smoother for longer.
With a comfortable, confident geometry that encourages all-day riding the Malt-G1X features a carbon thru-axle fork that stops the ride feeling too harsh when you’re on the ruff-stuff. We’ve spec’d the G1X with a Sram Apex 1 groupset giving you a wide spread of gears for any terrain and any gradient; this simple setup with a 42T single ring up front combined with a wide ratio 11/42T cassette won’t leave you struggling to find the right gear regardless of whether you’re climbing loose tracks off-road or zipping along on flat roads. The Malt-G1X comes fitted with tough Mavic XM 319 wheels featuring 6-Bolt thru-axle disc hubs and fast rolling, gravel-friendly 35mm Schwalbe G-One tyres which provide great traction while giving plenty of mud clearance between tyre, frame & fork. Finishing components include high-quality Zipp bars, stem and seatpost.

Mr MadellWith COVID taking its toll on the delivery services, I was warned that the build-time would be slightly longer, still only 10-15 days. Needless to say, anything beyond 1 day was too long to wait with the anticipation I felt! I couldn't wait to get my hands on my first gravel bike, but did have to wait till the full 15 working days (damn Corona) Either way, the bike came and I wasn't an unhappy child waiting for Christmas any longer, it looked better than the photos and came very nicely packaged. I'm a deft hand at putting bikes together so it didn't take long, especially with one wheel already in place! The first ride was beyond my expectations, I was only on road but it still flew along and hummed nicely on the back-roads near where I live. I can't fault it, save that I've only ridden it for ~100km (but that's this first week, so you know I'm enjoying it!) Thanks to Merlin for the support replying to my messages about technical details and impatience! Couldn't ask for a better service and bike!
Mr CookExcellent bike good fit I bought the 53cm & I'm 5ft 10" the reach is a bit long like other people have said but I put the seat forward feels a lot better. Out the box minimal building 30 minutes seat up seat down, bars moved around, pedals on etc & a few rides up & down the road and it was ready to ride. Gears perfect change quick no pause or noise. Build quality & parts looks good for price. Light bike for the price again I was surprised how light it is. After 5 mins I knew I was going to be out a long time as I hit a bank it powered up with ease. On the flat I was moving faster than my old bike with less effort. Summing up very pleased no complaints just a minor thing front disc bit of rub on pads let that bed in or a quick adjustment to the fixing bolts should sort it. Quick delivery and good service very happy
Mr StandfieldThe product has proved to be a great aquisition. Couldn’t be happier
garyExcellent bike, very stable handling, buzzes along nicely on the roads but excels on gravel and unmade paths, group set is is class & the hydraulic brakes perfect. Ordered on a Sunday delivered 8 days later. Merlin cycles cant be faulted in my opinion.
SeanI've been riding around on this for about a month with a mix of urban commuting and short gravel rides. Excellent groupset for the money. The frame and fork seem like great quality regardless of the lumpy welds, which is only aesthetic. It has everything I was looking for in a gravel bike with thru-axles, 1x drivetrain, hydro brakes, full carbon fork, and space for quite large tyres even on the stock 700c wheels. Gear ratios are bang on too. Comfortable ride and steering feels pretty lively. Very happy and don't think you could find better for anywhere near this money.
Mr taylorBought this so I can access the shortcuts I wouldn’t want to take my Cordite down. After a couple of weeks it’s going well.
