Tom BlackFinally joining the 21st Century and upgrading from 1990's Dura Ace 8 Speed to this .... the frame is still a vintage 1988 steel Ellis Briggs 653 ... nothing at all wrong with the original Dura Ace and it's going on the training bike.

WayneExcellent product. Barrel adjuster difficult to use and not nearly as good as the barrel adjuster on the RD-R6800. Information sheet rather poor and somewhat misleading.

Turns out to have been a great upgrade, shifting performance is spot on and everything you'd expect at this level. It doesn't hurt at all that it also looks right great!

Marc PickGood solid, very high quality mech, with the capacity to run wider range cassettes. Easy to set up, never misses a change... The spring is heavier duty than my prev Ultegra (6800 - I think) which is not a criticism, just an observation, so the shift feels more positive at the shifter, but the effort to change is higher.... Personally I prefer the 'feel' of the older generation Ultegra, but on a gravel or touring bike which will go over rough surfaces, I'm sure this heavier spring would be advantageous & control the chain tension better than before.

L GordonShifts tightly, and shifts tidily even if I'm hamfisting the levers. Return spring is nice and strong so it shifts to smaller cogs really well, even if the cable starts to get a little stuck in the outers when releasing tension from the shifters.

SimonBought to accommodate 32-11 cassette. Was concerned about compatibility with 6800 levers but all ok. Be warned mine came in OEM package so missing replacement cable sheath but not a problem for me. Cable fixings are different locations to 6800 version , I needed to replace cables as too short for this cage. Also be careful to mount correctly- read Shimano instructions else it will be on but rear wheel removal becomes impossible- many on internet seem to be complaining about this. JOHNThis rear mech is the latest shadow derailer. I have one already on my winter bike and was so happy with its performance I wanted one for my best bike. It shifts perfectly.
Mr AmiBest shifting derailleur Shimano has ever designed and I own both the electric and mechanical version. By moving the derailleur under the chain stay the chain stays on the pulley longer giving a positive, smooth shift.
RVHSo far so good. I'm using it with 2 cassettes. 11-25 and 11-34, and though the 11-25 is technically below the minimum recommended range for this RD, it shifts just fine even with the b screw adjusted in for the 11-34. You do have to be very careful with chain length with the 11-34 so you can't go braindead and mistakenly shift to 50:34 and bend something. It does (barely) cover the entire 39 tooth range as advertised.

Mr ArslanTakes really really less time to adjust from others before it. Shifting is easy. Don`t forget to add grease to cable entering point. (I adore it just for not using philips screw, this allen head makes everything easier)

AndrewSuper-sharp shifting and looks amazing on the bike too. I like the new 'shadow' angular, low-profile design which should help reduce damage to the derailleur in a crash. Feels like a big step-up from the already excellent 6800 Ultegra, and for most people Ultegra R8000 is the best Shimano option for both racing and training. Essentially the same performance as Dura-Ace for a lot less money and only a small weight penalty.

Mr DominguezWanted an Ultegra 11 speed rear mech and was deciding between this and the older 6800 version. Went for this one as it has the new shadow design which I thought was good. Fitted it easily to my new bike and it looks great. The cable holder is in a slightly different place to the older non-shadow style mechs so I had to shorten the outer cable but that wasn't an issue. The only negative is the barrel adjuster which I don't find works particularly well. I am tempted to swap it out for the older style one on one of my old mechs.

Mr LeverSwapped this derailleur from the previous RD6800 model. There is a notable change in shift quality compared to the older model, more noteable on the downshift where the lag between lever click and gear shift is reduced. Shame its slightly heavier than the mech it replaces. Good value , makes the 105 range look at little pointless now.
