Eddy Merckx Sallanches 64 105 Disc Road Bike - 2017

The Eddy Merckx Sallanches 64 105 Disc is a lightweight carbon fibre road bike designed to be a versatile machine that can deliver in high-performance racing and longer endurance events, allowing you to go further and faster than you have done previously and helping you enjoy your road cycling more than ever before. In 1964, Eddy Merckx became the amateur world champion in Sallanches, France; this marked the start of his extraordinarily successful career as a cyclist with this bike taking its name from that victory.

The Sallanches 64 combines rider-friendly geometry - a slightly higher head tube and shorter top tube, with a cleverly constructed carbon frame which includes a more flexible flattened profile in the seatstays providing enhanced comfort when seated. These compliant elements contrast with a super-stiff bottom bracket and chainstay area ensuring that all of your energy and pedaling power transfers through to the rear wheel. The user-friendly technology doesn’t end with the frame though; the addition of predictable Shimano BR-RS505 hydraulic braking takes the Sallanches 64 to another level providing you with confidence inspiring control even on steep, wet and unpredictable descents.

The Eddy Merckx Sallanches 64 includes a rider-friendly Shimano 105 5800 groupset featuring a compact chainset combined with a wide ratio rear cassette providing a versatile range of gears that will help you conquer the steepest climbs you can find. The Sallanches 64 disc road bike features thru axles for increased stiffness, enhanced steering and no disc rotor rub as well as a pair of lightweight but durable Fulcrum Racing Sport disc specific wheels while a notably comfortable Prologo saddle and Deda components means your contact points remain comfortable even during a six-hour epic.

Great bike for the money, frame is stiff but not uncomfortable. Drivetrain shimano 105 work like a charm. Hydraulic brakes are really powerful but 505 levers are really big. Wheels are entry level and reliable like expected but for better performance look for options to upgrade. Forks take up to 30mm tires.
The pictures don't do this bike justice! This is a beautiful glossy black finish bike with some fluorescent orange accents. Got this bike as an upgrade from a Fuji Sportif Aluminium bike. Compared to that aluminium frame the ride is much smoother with the front fork noticeably absorbing the bulk of the vibrations. The saddle is very comfortable, nice padding. The internal cable routing makes for a clean look, but there's a noticeable rattling sound coming from inside the frame, this is very common thing. The brakes feel very strong and grippy. the gears are changing smooth as one would expect from shimano 105/RS 505. Anybody reading this should not hesitate in buying it over a CAAD12 105, or a Giant Advanced 1, or a Cube Attain, or a Hoy Alto Irpavi....(the bikes I was considering before this one). Thanks Merlin Bikes!
