Merlin ROC 105 Road Bike

The ROC is our best ever aluminium road bike. A very modern response to the demands of today’s road cyclists. You could call it a sportive machine but that would be limiting this bike’s capabilities. It’s a bike built for comfort certainly but it’s also light and responsive. It’s not a slogger.

A triple butted alloy frame with slender rear stays, an elegantly triangulated top tube and a tapered head tube up front. The ROC really is testament to the amazing yet affordable things that can be done with aluminium these days.

The ROC is almost like two different bikes in one package. Stay in the saddle and on the hoods and it will eat up the miles with great ease and efficiency. Get out of the saddle or on the drops and the bike fires up its racing genes and turbo boosts your progress.

To get the most out of this excellent frameset we commited early on to a fully Shimano 105 groupset. 105 is where Shimano’s trickle-down technology is at its best. Super slick 11 speed shifting and powerful, controllable braking.

We opted to go with Fulcrum Sport for the wheelet. 4ZA supply the rest of the finishing kit for a dependable and consistent ride character.

General information about our shipping
I'm really pleased with my new bike. On a short ride I was a little worried that the spark wasn't there or I'd bought the wrong size as it's quite a tall bike (large, I'm just under 6"), but on a longer one round winter hill everything clicked when I got into a nice rhythm. She rides just like the description - built for comfort, but really sharp and responsive when you need it.
I can't believe how fast this goes! First off, let me start by saying that I wanted a bike that would get me back into racing again - and I chose the right bike. Weight - it is very light. My old road bike is so much more heavy than this. Shimano 105 - it is so smooth I have sometimes had to look down just to make sure I've changed gear. For a 21 speed bike I still haven't hit the 21st gear yet - but there is time. Agility - it's very sturdy with a strong frame. What I have found with this bike is that you need to get used to the feel of it if you want to be able to control it when going fast. I did have a slight issue with both my front and rear derailleur as they wouldn't push my chain to the lowest gear and my front derailleur wouldn't even shift my chain. Given that there was an initial PDI I must admit I was disappointed. In terms of packaging, Merlin don't seem to think too much packaging is a bad thing...and they are right. My bike was in an immaculate condition and while it took me around 20 minutes to get all the bubble wrap off it, it was in PRISTINE condition. A summary: Fast, light, agile, sexy looking (it is), sturdy, oh and amazing at climbing hills.
After many months of research I finally ordered the ROC 105 in December having previously always been a mountain biker. The Merlin team were extremely helpful in guiding me to the correct frame size. Over the Christmas period I have covered over 150 miles and my pleasure from using this machine increases with each ride. In my opinion Merlin has configured an incredible package for the money. The Shimano 105 5800 groupset definitely lives up to the hype and provides silky smooth changes throughout. In summary the ROC 105 is highly recommended!
Really nice package - I got it at discount which makes it all the better. Pleased with the finish and the frame welding, wheels better than expected. Light and good value
I was in search of an aluminium winter and commuting bike with full 105 spec components. I have to say the bike represents great value for the money. I am 6'1" with a 33" inseam and after discussing with the staff at Merlin I went with the XL. The taller head tube creates a slightly more upright feel that an all-out race bike which is what I wanted. The Fulcrum wheelset isn't overly light but solid. The bike arrived to Canada by UPS within a week. The only small gripe is that it would have been nice to have a fork with a full carbon steerer tube rather than aluminium. However, overall I am very pleased.
Having completed over 800 miles on my ROC 105 since purchasing it in August, 2015, I cannot overstate the value that it represents. The quality of shifting with the new 11 speed 105 groupset is outstanding (I am currently running 10 speed Ultegra on my No.1 bike and the difference is significant). A full 105 groupset helped make my mind up when I was considering all of my options, especially at this price point. If it helps anyone with sizing, I am 6'1" with 33" inside leg and the large frame was perfect having worked off of the geometry supplied by Merlin. When the frame arrived it had a "M" sticker attached but after a quick phone call and measuring it up against the geometry on the website it was the precise dimensions of the large as advertised. Finish on the frame was also very nice and I would certainly recommend this bike.
Very happy with this bike. Great product, quality above the price point
