I have used these before, and for me (80kg, Whyte 46 in the Peak District all year round) they're the best balance between traction, durability and puncture resistance and rolling.
Great tyres, first attempt at tubeless and was easy to set up and they work well out on the trail.
Great value mtb tyre ideal for british xc trail conditions, lightweight and inflates easy with sealant. Good grip and rolls ok both on and off road
Brought these (Rocket Ron) in the sale. Used them for a while and cannot fault the balance of weight and grip. They are no winter mud tyre, so if this is your requirement look elsewhere. As an overall tyre they are ideal. Merlin prices were awesome... half price. If they still have some then get some. They would still be my choice at normal pricing.
My tyre of choice at the moment ... having tried lots .... these offer a good balance between traction, weight, and puncture / pinch flat resistance. I am 85kg and I find I can run these around 40psi with no issues whatsoever. My previous pair of these lasted a year in the Peak District, which I rate as very good durability.
FAB!!!! so much grip up front. 2.25 Evo feels same as 2.1 performance on road but smashes it on the trails and mud. It's lighter and faster and offers massive confidence in the corners (possibly part psychological) and holds extremely well when braking.
I bought these tyres as I wanted tyres that could cope with mud, tree roots and be a tyre for all conditions. I was not disappointed. I am now a much more confident rider in all conditions. Truly amazing price and fast delivery.
Rode these for the first time yesterday in the Pentlands (Edinburgh) and they handled everything very well, hard pack, loose mud, sloppy mud, clay mud, loose gravel and boulders. I was looking for an all round tyre but something a bit quicker than my old Cinders - these are much faster, accelerate and keep speed well and grip with confidence.
Great price too!
Grippier then the Smart Sam it replaced on the rear, but rolls slower on tarmac. But double defense at a killer price
Very light and durable, good grip on all kinds of soils. good for XC and trail ride.
Fantastic tyre, 2.1" width is genuine, rolls very well and doesn't seem to have much less grip than the larger 2.25" carcass. TL version seals very well on my Stans Flow rim and pumps up well with Stans solution and a track pump. Despite all trail riding, I've yet to put a substantial puncture in the carcass so the Double Defence version seems robust and not much less pliable than non-DD versions which I've sometimes read. Well recommended tyre.
So far,so good - seems an excellent tyre - rolls easily on roads/tarmac and good grip on trails. I bought because I kept getting punctures in my Bontrager/Trek tyres froom thorns and bits of stone. These are far superior and no punctures!. Great service, prices and delivery from Merlin too - I ordered one day, and they arrived the next.
Great price. 2.1 seem pretty narrow, but work well enough in mud conditions.
